Description:

We’re hiring a Seamstress Trainee to join our garment care and alteration team — perfect for someone who enjoys practical sewing, helping people feel confident in their clothes, and learning real-world tailoring skills. You’ll begin by assisting with simple repairs such as sewing on buttons, fixing loose hems, and reinforcing seams. You’ll assist in cutting fabric according to patterns, pinning pieces together, and prepping them for stitching. You’ll be trained to sew straight lines, curves, hems, darts, and zippers with increasing precision and control. You’ll help prep cut fabric pieces, organize bundles by size, and feed materials properly into the machine. You’ll receive coaching on how to maintain even seam allowances, meet speed goals, and inspect your own work as you go. You’ll learn how to add custom elements like lace appliqués, bust cups, buttons, and corset back closures. You’ll be taught to estimate turnaround times and prioritize urgent items like uniforms, suits, or event outfits. You’ll receive instruction on how to preserve costumes during long runs, transport them between locations, and handle delicate or high-value items.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Assist in pattern modifications, sample creation, or prototyping when working in a design team.
  • Inspect garments for flaws, inconsistencies, or damage before and after alterations.
  • Maintain a respectful, collaborative attitude when working in shared studios or tailoring shops.
  • Practice safe handling of needles, scissors, and cutting tools in a shared space.
  • Perform fittings and make necessary adjustments based on client feedback and fabric behavior.

Preferred:

  • Pays close attention to fabric type, thread color, tension settings, and finishing quality.
  • Enjoys transforming fabric into functional or decorative clothing pieces.
  • Able to handle both delicate fabrics (e.g., silk, chiffon) and heavier materials (e.g., denim, wool).
  • Proficient in operating equipment such as straight-stitch, serger, overlock, or embroidery machines.
  • Able to communicate with designers, tailors, or customers about custom orders or fitting requests.

Benefits:

  • There’s pride in every hem, dart, and invisible zipper.
  • Paid time off and wellness support — because even needle hands need rest.
  • Opportunities to design, not just sew — your ideas matter here.
  • Flexible hours to match your rhythm — early start or late flow, it’s your craft.
  • Custom orders, bridal fixes, costumes — no two projects are the same.

You’ll rotate between hand-sewing, machine stations, and customer service desks to understand the entire process. You’ll observe how professional seamstresses balance time, detail, and client requests in a production or custom setting. You’ll be expected to keep your station neat, your stitching tidy, and your communication clear with both team and clients. You’ll gain exposure to wardrobe continuity, production schedules, and the collaborative process between departments. You’ll get to see the before-and-after of every job, and take pride in bringing clothes back to life. You’ll be mentored by bridal specialists who will guide your stitching, posture, and eye for elegance. This internship is ideal for someone interested in theatrical tailoring, costume design, or behind-the-scenes fashion for stage and screen. If you’re ready to give clothes a second chance and learn tailoring that people truly need, we’re ready to train you. If you’re ready to work with lace, patience, and love, we’re ready to train you in the bridal atelier.
