We’re hiring a Public Utility Worker for night shifts focused on street and roadway maintenance — ideal for someone who’s dependable, alert, and comfortable working after hours to keep the city running. You’ll assist in inspecting and repairing road surfaces, curbs, storm drains, and crosswalks during low-traffic hours. You’ll assist with removing litter, sweeping sidewalks, and emptying trash bins in public areas on a set schedule. You’ll support daily trash pickup, graffiti removal, and litter patrols to ensure a welcoming and clean atmosphere for all visitors. You’ll help inspect fountains and decorative lighting systems, reporting clogs, cracks, or malfunctions to technicians. You’ll assist with checking water levels, replacing filters, and performing seasonal fountain startup or shutdown procedures. You’ll learn how to document service activity, collect water samples, and report pressure or quality issues accurately. You’ll learn how to prep park facilities for events, including setup of seating, lights, stages, or shelters when needed. You’ll be expected to pick up litter, remove graffiti, and empty waste bins regularly along trails, picnic areas, and pavilions.
Basic Qualifications:
- Work independently or in crews to complete assignments efficiently and professionally.
- Adapt to changing weather conditions, urgent calls, or rotating shifts without compromising safety.
- Participate in ongoing training for certifications, safety standards, and new technologies.
- Track and document maintenance activities, time logs, and material usage accurately.
- Ensure work zones are marked properly with signs, cones, or barriers to protect workers and the public.
Preferred:
- Pays attention to safety protocols when working near traffic, construction zones, or underground systems.
- Willing to support cleanup operations after storms, roadwork, or public gatherings.
- Willing to assist with emergency repairs, public events setup, or seasonal work like snow removal or landscaping.
- Understands the importance of protecting public infrastructure and keeping communities safe and functional.
- Capable of working independently or in a team to meet deadlines and service goals.
Benefits:
- Consistent, reliable hours — predictable shifts, so you can plan your life around work.
- Work in a field that offers security — utilities are essential services, ensuring long-term job availability.
- You’ll make a tangible impact — keeping the lights on, water flowing, and gas available is a critical service.
- Overtime opportunities — earn more by contributing extra hours during high-demand times.
- A role that makes a real difference — you’ll be part of something that directly impacts people's lives.
You’ll rotate between emergency calls and preventative maintenance tasks under the direction of senior crew members. You’ll follow city safety guidelines, wear protective gear, and use traffic cones or warning signs when working roadside. You’ll assist with loading equipment, maintaining vehicles, and restocking fittings and repair materials after each job. You’ll be expected to work outdoors in various conditions, including heat, cold, and rain, with regular physical activity. You’ll rotate between multiple parks and green spaces in your district to keep each area consistent and well-maintained. You’ll maintain logs of completed tasks, materials used, and areas serviced throughout your shift. No experience is required — just physical readiness, a sense of responsibility, and comfort with night work and outdoor conditions. If you’re ready to repair, restore, and protect your city while most are asleep, we’re ready to bring you on night duty. If you’re ready to work below the surface to keep your city flowing, we’re ready to train you from the ground up.
