Description:

We’re hiring a Seamstress Trainee to support our costume department — perfect for someone who’s creative, flexible, and excited to help bring characters to life through clothing. You’ll begin by learning how to handle delicate fabrics like chiffon, satin, lace, and tulle with precision and care. You’ll be trained to work with various materials — from heavy period fabrics to stretchwear, lace, sequins, and leather. You’ll be trained to operate industrial machines — from straight stitch and overlock to coverstitch and buttonhole machines. You’ll help prep cut fabric pieces, organize bundles by size, and feed materials properly into the machine. You’ll receive coaching on how to maintain even seam allowances, meet speed goals, and inspect your own work as you go. You’ll support quality control by flagging stitching errors, skipped seams, or material flaws before garments move forward. You’ll assist with distressing or aging garments for realism — sanding, staining, or altering textures to match the director’s vision. You’ll help track inventory, log finished repairs, and prepare garments for pickup or delivery using order systems.

Basic Qualifications:

• Inspect garments for flaws, inconsistencies, or damage before and after alterations.
• Handle rush orders or last-minute changes with calmness and problem-solving skills.
• Use pressing equipment to steam and iron finished pieces for a clean, professional look.
• Replace zippers, buttons, linings, and other garment components as needed.
• Maintain a respectful, collaborative attitude when working in shared studios or tailoring shops.

Preferred:

• Familiar with cutting fabric efficiently to reduce waste and maintain pattern integrity.
• Capable of hand-sewing detailed work such as buttons, appliqués, beads, and lace.
• Willing to assist with costume creation, bridal wear, uniforms, or mass-produced apparel based on the role.
• Willing to support inventory management, fabric sourcing, or accessory assembly when required.
• Values precision, craftsmanship, and client satisfaction in every stitch.
