Description:

We’re hiring a Librarian Trainee who’s curious, organized, and excited to help people connect with knowledge, stories, and resources every day. You’ll begin by learning how to organize and shelve children’s books, picture books, chapter books, and early readers by category and age group. You’ll learn how to set up temporary reading stations at schools, senior centers, rural stops, or community events. You’ll help patrons browse materials, check out books, and register for library cards right on the spot. You’ll be trained to create colorful displays and book-themed bulletin boards that make the space inviting and engaging. You’ll support literacy activities like storytime, book clubs, or simple reading games during scheduled visits. You’ll assist with research requests from historians, students, or institutions looking for specific materials. You’ll be taught how to support faculty with interlibrary loan requests and help track down hard-to-find materials. You’ll gain experience preparing library workshops on research skills, plagiarism avoidance, or citation management.

Basic Qualifications:

• Recommend books and resources based on reader interests, age, or research topics.
• Provide instruction on how to use library databases, search tools, and public computers.
• Create displays and themed collections to highlight seasonal topics, cultural events, or local authors.
• Track metrics like visitor stats, program attendance, or material circulation for reporting.
• Oversee the acquisition of new books, periodicals, and digital materials based on community demand.

Preferred:

• Comfortable conducting library orientations, workshops, or literacy programs for diverse age groups.
• Familiar with processing interlibrary loans, managing memberships, and library card registrations.
• Familiar with library catalog software (e.g., Koha, Aleph, Sierra) and digital databases.
• Able to assist patrons with research, book searches, and accessing online resources or archives.
• Values learning, inclusivity, and service in every interaction with patrons.
