Description:

We’re hiring a Mail Carrier Trainee to support daily operations at our city post office — perfect for someone who enjoys structured work, customer service, and learning how mail moves from counter to doorstep. You’ll begin by learning how incoming mail is received, sorted, and prepared for carriers or pickup shelves. You’ll assist in unloading postal trucks, scanning barcodes, and placing parcels onto conveyor systems or into sorting bins. You’ll assist in delivering letters, postcards, and small parcels directly to mailrooms, drop boxes, or front doors. You’ll help customers with postage options, tracking questions, and mailing forms — always with a helpful attitude. You’ll support front-desk operations by restocking supplies like stamps, envelopes, and customs declarations. You’ll be shown how to deliver in various weather conditions — from summer heat to muddy back roads or snowy driveways. You’ll assist in keeping records of misrouted items, rejected barcodes, and damaged packaging that needs inspection. You’ll be taught how to scan barcodes, confirm delivery with timestamps, and leave notices for missed packages or pickups.

Basic Qualifications:

• Scan barcodes and update tracking systems in real time using handheld devices.
• Report damaged mail, unsafe mailboxes, or unusual activity to supervisors promptly.
• Deliver letters, parcels, and registered mail to homes, businesses, and mailboxes on schedule.
• Support a positive image of the postal service through punctuality and professionalism.
• Sort and organize mail and packages for your delivery route before leaving the post office.

Preferred:

• Willing to sort incoming mail in preparation for daily delivery rounds.
• Values punctuality, consistency, and accountability in every delivery task.
• Familiar with scanning packages, updating tracking info, or recording delivery confirmations using handheld devices.
• Follows safety procedures when operating a delivery vehicle, walking near roads, or lifting packages.
• Wants to grow into roles like Route Supervisor, Postal Operations Lead, or Dispatcher.

You’ll receive training on how to handle certified mail, signature-required deliveries, and restricted items properly. You’ll work independently for most of the day, but stay in communication with your supervisor for support and updates. You’ll support postal team operations by organizing undelivered items and reporting incorrect or unsafe addresses. You’ll be trained in package security and how to safely deliver to mailrooms, parcel lockers, and code-based entry boxes. You’ll work independently for most of your shift but always stay connected to the supervisor and postmaster for updates. You’ll be expected to maintain a clean, organized workspace and wear a tidy, professional appearance. No experience is needed — just strong reliability, attention to detail, and the ability to work outdoors and on your feet.
