Description:
We’re hiring a Seamstress Trainee to support our costume department — perfect for someone who’s creative, flexible, and excited to help bring characters to life through clothing. You’ll assist in sewing, altering, and prepping costumes for stage, film, or television productions under the guidance of experienced costume designers. You’ll assist in steaming gowns, pinning trains, and prepping dresses for fittings or hand detailing. You’ll be trained to sew by hand and by machine, reinforcing seams, adjusting straps, and tailoring bodices for a flawless fit. You’ll help prep cut fabric pieces, organize bundles by size, and feed materials properly into the machine. You’ll learn how to make alterations on dresses, pants, jackets, and uniforms — from shortening sleeves to reshaping waists. You’ll learn how to add custom elements like lace appliqués, bust cups, buttons, and corset back closures. You’ll learn how to follow tech packs, production charts, and standard sizing templates for uniform results. You’ll help track inventory, log finished repairs, and prepare garments for pickup or delivery using order systems.
Basic Qualifications:
- Use overlock, blind stitch, or serger machines when required for specific finishing techniques.
- Perform fittings and make necessary adjustments based on client feedback and fabric behavior.
- Track orders, manage deadlines, and keep detailed notes for each customer or project.
- Communicate clearly with clients about alteration timelines, design requests, and garment care.
- Handle delicate or high-value garments with extra attention and discretion.
Preferred:
- Understands safety procedures for machine operation and workplace cleanliness.
- Able to communicate with designers, tailors, or customers about custom orders or fitting requests.
- Willing to support inventory management, fabric sourcing, or accessory assembly when required.
- Background or passion in sewing, fashion design, costume production, or textile arts.
- Comfortable performing clothing alterations, repairs, or custom fittings for individual clients or production needs.
Benefits:
- Custom orders, bridal fixes, costumes — no two projects are the same.
- Discounted or free tailoring for you and your family.
- You see instant results — from loose thread to perfect fit.
- Supportive team that values your skills — not just speed.
- Get recognized for flawless finishes, not just fast jobs.
You’ll receive feedback on your sewing quality, speed, and neatness as you practice more advanced techniques. You’ll observe how professional seamstresses balance time, detail, and client requests in a production or custom setting. You’ll be expected to keep your station neat, your stitching tidy, and your communication clear with both team and clients. You’ll receive regular feedback on your sewing technique, output rate, and how to stay sharp during repetitive tasks. You’ll be mentored by theatrical seamstresses and wardrobe supervisors who will share decades of tricks and creative fixes. You’ll be mentored by bridal specialists who will guide your stitching, posture, and eye for elegance. This internship is ideal for someone considering factory sewing, apparel production, or pattern-based tailoring. If you’re ready to give clothes a second chance and learn tailoring that people truly need, we’re ready to train you. If you’re ready to work with lace, patience, and love, we’re ready to train you in the bridal atelier.
