Description:
We’re hiring a Public Utility Worker for night shifts focused on street and roadway maintenance — ideal for someone who’s dependable, alert, and comfortable working after hours to keep the city running. You’ll assist in cleaning and maintaining fountains, seating areas, open pavilions, and paved walkways around public plazas and city centers. You’ll be trained to use cones, warning signs, and reflective gear to secure work zones and direct nighttime drivers safely. You’ll be trained to operate tools like valve keys, hydrant wrenches, pressure gauges, and inspection cameras. You’ll help inspect fountains and decorative lighting systems, reporting clogs, cracks, or malfunctions to technicians. You’ll help flush hydrants, clean storm drains, and clear catch basins to ensure proper flow during heavy rain. You’ll learn how to document service activity, collect water samples, and report pressure or quality issues accurately. You’ll learn how to prep park facilities for events, including setup of seating, lights, stages, or shelters when needed. You’ll rotate through landmark zones such as waterfront rails, civic monuments, observation points, or viewing decks.
Basic Qualifications:
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members to stay aligned on tasks and priorities.
- Provide excellent service to residents or businesses affected by outages, repairs, or inspections.
- Read utility maps, blueprints, or schematics to locate underground lines and plan repairs.
- Ensure work zones are marked properly with signs, cones, or barriers to protect workers and the public.
- Inspect utility systems regularly to identify wear, leaks, or potential hazards.
Preferred:
- Can interact respectfully with the public and answer basic questions about work being done.
- Follows directions from supervisors and reads site plans, blueprints, or instructions for job assignments.
- Understands the importance of protecting public infrastructure and keeping communities safe and functional.
- Able to set up signs, barricades, or traffic cones to ensure a safe work area.
- Organized in completing daily work orders, time logs, and material usage reports accurately.
Benefits:
- Mentorship from experienced professionals — you’ll learn from the best in the field.
- Clear expectations — you’ll always know what’s expected of you and how to meet performance goals.
- You’ll make a tangible impact — keeping the lights on, water flowing, and gas available is a critical service.
- Access to employee discounts — on services and products that support your personal and professional life.
- A role that makes a real difference — you’ll be part of something that directly impacts people's lives.
You’ll rotate between emergency calls and preventative maintenance tasks under the direction of senior crew members. You’ll follow city safety guidelines, wear protective gear, and use traffic cones or warning signs when working roadside. You’ll assist with loading equipment, maintaining vehicles, and restocking fittings and repair materials after each job. You’ll interact courteously with the public and answer basic questions about services or scheduled activities. You’ll receive ongoing safety training and mentorship focused on night visibility, noise protocols, and accident prevention. You’ll maintain logs of completed tasks, materials used, and areas serviced throughout your shift. No experience is required — just responsibility, physical readiness, and a strong desire to serve your community directly. If you’re ready to repair, restore, and protect your city while most are asleep, we’re ready to bring you on night duty. If you’re ready to care for the places where the city gathers, strolls, and rests — we’re ready to bring you onto the team.
