Description:
We’re hiring a Public Transport Inspector to help ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of buses, trams, or metro systems across the city — perfect for someone who’s detail-oriented, calm under pressure, and committed to public service. You’ll be responsible for monitoring transit vehicles and routes to confirm adherence to schedules, cleanliness standards, and safety regulations. You’ll check braking systems, lighting, signaling devices, doors, suspension, and emergency equipment according to checklists. You’ll assist in checking lighting, signage, and platform systems to confirm visibility and functionality during low-light hours. You’ll issue citations or warnings for fare evasion based on department protocol, always with clear documentation. You’ll perform random fare checks, ensuring nighttime riders follow proper payment protocols. You’ll assist with verifying proper signage, accessibility routes, and digital information displays for accuracy and functionality. You’ll help check maintenance readiness — lights, signage, cleanliness, accessibility features — and log any deficiencies. You’ll patrol transfer points, stations, and popular stops during peak hours to ensure consistent presence and support.
Basic Qualifications:
- Conduct random or scheduled inspections onboard or at stations during various shifts.
- Support crowd management and passenger flow during peak hours or special events.
- Work independently across large areas while staying organized and alert.
- Check tickets and passes, verifying passenger compliance with fare regulations.
- Participate in training programs related to safety, regulations, or customer interaction.
Preferred:
- Can report on mechanical issues, environmental hazards, or unsafe rider behavior observed during inspections.
- Able to check passenger tickets or passes, verify fare validity, and issue warnings or fines when necessary.
- Knowledge of transportation regulations, fare systems, and ticketing technologies including contactless payment methods.
- Experience working in public transportation, security, logistics, or regulatory roles.
- Open to working rotating shifts, including weekends, early mornings, or late nights.
Benefits:
- Stable hours and predictable shifts — you'll know exactly when you're working.
- Stability in an essential field — people will always need public transportation, and you’re the one ensuring it’s safe.
- Access to employee perks — discounts and deals with transport services, local businesses, and more.
- You’re not just enforcing rules — you’re helping people get to their destinations safely and on time.
- Job security — public transport is essential, and your role is critical to keeping it running smoothly.
You’ll receive training in conflict de-escalation, transit law, and emergency response procedures specific to public transport. You’ll rotate through different lines, stations, and time zones — including early mornings, evenings, and occasional overnight shifts. You’ll work in pairs or small teams to ensure safety and coverage across different routes or areas. You’ll help audit maintenance records, verify service intervals, and confirm that repairs have been completed and signed off. You’ll wear issued gear and maintain a sharp, respectful appearance as a visible part of the metro operations team. You’ll contribute to monthly audits, reports, and internal reviews that help improve city-wide transport quality. You’ll contribute daily logs and inspection notes that help prevent larger issues through early detection. If you’re ready to walk the last platform and protect the final ride of the night, we’re ready to train you for night patrol. If you're ready to help keep public vehicles reliable, safe, and road-ready, we’re ready to train you as a transport inspector.
