Description:
We’re hiring a Public Transport Inspector to oversee fare compliance and ensure respectful conduct aboard city transit — ideal for someone who’s fair, observant, and confident in direct communication. You’ll monitor late-night bus, tram, and metro services to ensure schedules are followed, stops are respected, and passengers feel safe. You’ll be trained to use handheld scanners, validation apps, or visual checks to confirm passenger payment status quickly and discreetly. You’ll assist in checking lighting, signage, and platform systems to confirm visibility and functionality during low-light hours. You’ll issue citations or warnings for fare evasion based on department protocol, always with clear documentation. You’ll use diagnostic tools, hand instruments, and visual assessments to record detailed vehicle condition reports. You’ll help enforce quiet hours and support operators in handling noise complaints or inappropriate behavior onboard. You’ll check fare barriers, ticket machines, and validator units for proper function and report malfunctions quickly. You’ll help ensure all vehicles adhere to city and national transport regulations before entering public service.
Basic Qualifications:
- Stay informed about updates to public transit policies, fare structures, or route adjustments.
- Monitor stops and terminals for loitering, unauthorized vendors, or potential disruptions.
- Contribute to service improvement by reporting recurring issues or rider feedback.
- Support crowd management and passenger flow during peak hours or special events.
- Check tickets and passes, verifying passenger compliance with fare regulations.
Preferred:
- Able to interpret schedules, maps, and service zones to verify route accuracy and stop coverage.
- Familiar with emergency protocols, passenger rights, and proper communication during service disruptions.
- Experience working in public transportation, security, logistics, or regulatory roles.
- Comfortable interacting with the public in a respectful and assertive manner while maintaining authority.
- Background or interest in public service, transport systems, or civic compliance.
Benefits:
- Job security — public transport is essential, and your role is critical to keeping it running smoothly.
- Health, dental, and retirement benefits — we care about your well-being, both physically and financially.
- You’ll never be bored — every day brings new challenges and new passengers.
- Competitive pay — your attention to detail and dedication are rewarded fairly.
- Opportunities to advance — from inspector to supervisor or management roles, the path is clear.
You’ll coordinate with mechanics, maintenance supervisors, and dispatch to flag and remove unsafe vehicles from rotation. You’ll rotate through different lines, stations, and time zones — including early mornings, evenings, and occasional overnight shifts. You’ll participate in drills and simulated emergency scenarios to prepare for fire, power outages, or evacuation procedures. You’ll work in all types of weather and interact with a wide range of passengers, from commuters to tourists to schoolchildren. You’ll receive advanced training on vehicle systems, safety codes, and risk documentation procedures. You’ll be mentored by senior fare inspectors who understand how to apply rules fairly without unnecessary conflict. No experience is required — just confidence, honesty, and the ability to stand for long periods and stay calm under pressure. If you’re ready to protect the integrity of public transit and ensure everyone rides fairly, we’re ready to train you for inspection duty. If you're ready to help keep public vehicles reliable, safe, and road-ready, we’re ready to train you as a transport inspector.
