Description:

We’re hiring a Librarian Trainee who’s curious, organized, and excited to help people connect with knowledge, stories, and resources every day. You’ll begin by learning how to organize and shelve children’s books, picture books, chapter books, and early readers by category and age group. You’ll assist with checking out materials, helping parents find age-appropriate books, and recommending popular titles to young readers. You’ll help manage textbook reserves, printing services, and study room reservations at the circulation desk. You’ll be trained to use portable scanners and laptops to manage inventory and update user accounts in real time. You’ll support arts-and-crafts activities, helping distribute supplies, supervise table work, and encourage kids to participate. You’ll assist with research requests from historians, students, or institutions looking for specific materials. You’ll be shown how to redact sensitive information in public records and follow privacy policies for restricted collections. You’ll gain experience preparing library workshops on research skills, plagiarism avoidance, or citation management.

Basic Qualifications:

• Plan and host educational programs, reading groups, or community events for all age groups.
• Support literacy development through storytime, tutoring, or educational outreach initiatives.
• Protect patron privacy and uphold ethical standards in all information handling.
• Recommend books and resources based on reader interests, age, or research topics.
• Maintain organized shelves and signage to help users navigate independently.

Preferred:

• Enjoys connecting people with knowledge, information, and lifelong reading habits.
• Open to working in academic, public, school, or special libraries depending on the role.
• Background or passion in education, literature, archives, or community engagement.
• Familiar with processing interlibrary loans, managing memberships, and library card registrations.
