Description:

We’re hiring a Librarian Trainee to support our children’s library team — ideal for someone who enjoys books, creativity, and working with kids in a welcoming environment. You’ll begin by learning how to assist students and faculty in locating research materials, textbooks, and scholarly articles. You’ll assist with checking out materials, helping parents find age-appropriate books, and recommending popular titles to young readers. You’ll help manage textbook reserves, printing services, and study room reservations at the circulation desk. You’ll be trained to use portable scanners and laptops to manage inventory and update user accounts in real time. You’ll support arts-and-crafts activities, helping distribute supplies, supervise table work, and encourage kids to participate. You’ll assist elderly or mobility-limited patrons in selecting books, placing holds, or accessing large-print and audio materials. You’ll be taught how to support faculty with interlibrary loan requests and help track down hard-to-find materials. You’ll help prepare displays and bulletin boards to highlight seasonal themes, new arrivals, or local events.

Basic Qualifications:

• Maintain a quiet, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere for study, learning, and exploration.
• Manage budgets, grant applications, or donations for expanding programs and resources.
• Assist students or researchers with citations, academic sources, or archival materials.
• Ensure that digital systems—catalogs, e-books, and learning portals—are accessible and functional.
• Protect patron privacy and uphold ethical standards in all information handling.

Preferred:

• Keeps up with trends in literacy, e-books, and modern information services.
• Familiar with processing interlibrary loans, managing memberships, and library card registrations.
• Willing to train or supervise interns, volunteers, or junior staff members.
• Understands how to support information literacy, digital safety, and research skills among students or the public.
• Capable of balancing desk duties with behind-the-scenes collection management and programming.
