Description:

We’re hiring a Seamstress Trainee to join our garment care and alteration team — perfect for someone who enjoys practical sewing, helping people feel confident in their clothes, and learning real-world tailoring skills. You’ll begin by learning how to handle delicate fabrics like chiffon, satin, lace, and tulle with precision and care. You’ll be trained to use industrial machines to shorten pants, take in waists, and adjust jacket sleeves with clean, professional finishes. You’ll be trained to sew by hand and by machine, reinforcing seams, adjusting straps, and tailoring bodices for a flawless fit. You’ll support zipper replacements, invisible mending, and patching small holes in both everyday and formal wear. You’ll learn to press and steam garments properly after alterations so they look ready-to-wear when returned to customers. You’ll assist in checking clothing for damage upon intake and tagging special instructions for custom requests. You’ll be taught how to press garments properly using steamers and irons to give each piece a polished look. You’ll help organize threads, fabrics, trims, and fasteners to keep the workspace clean and efficient.

Basic Qualifications:

• Adapt sewing methods based on fabric behavior, garment design, or client preference.
• Maintain a clean, organized workstation and keep tools in good working order.
• Use overlock, blind stitch, or serger machines when required for specific finishing techniques.
• Follow patterns or design sketches to create new clothing items or custom pieces.
• Support larger production projects by completing assigned stitching or assembly tasks.

Preferred:

• Understands garment construction and tailoring methods to ensure fit, drape, and comfort.
• Pays strong attention to detail in stitching, seams, pattern alignment, and fabric consistency.
• Organized in managing multiple sewing projects, client deadlines, or production quotas.
• Willing to assist in pressing, steaming, and final presentation of finished pieces.
• Willing to support inventory management, fabric sourcing, or accessory assembly when required.
