Description:

We’re hiring a Seamstress Trainee to join our garment care and alteration team — perfect for someone who enjoys practical sewing, helping people feel confident in their clothes, and learning real-world tailoring skills. You’ll begin by assisting with simple repairs such as sewing on buttons, fixing loose hems, and reinforcing seams. You’ll assist in steaming gowns, pinning trains, and prepping dresses for fittings or hand detailing. You’ll be trained to sew by hand and by machine, reinforcing seams, adjusting straps, and tailoring bodices for a flawless fit. You’ll support zipper replacements, invisible mending, and patching small holes in both everyday and formal wear. You’ll receive coaching on how to maintain even seam allowances, meet speed goals, and inspect your own work as you go. You’ll help label, inventory, and organize costumes by character, scene, or performance day. You’ll help organize accessories, veils, and embellishments, preparing complete looks for final pickup. You’ll be taught how to hand-finish hems, add invisible zippers, and work with multi-layered skirts without damaging inner linings.

Basic Qualifications:

• Use pressing equipment to steam and iron finished pieces for a clean, professional look.
• Support larger production projects by completing assigned stitching or assembly tasks.
• Take pride in craftsmanship—every stitch contributes to someone’s confidence and comfort.
• Inspect garments for flaws, inconsistencies, or damage before and after alterations.
• Be flexible—some days involve tiny hand-stitching, others bulk repairs or costume work.

Preferred:

• Willing to support inventory management, fabric sourcing, or accessory assembly when required.
• Able to handle both delicate fabrics (e.g., silk, chiffon) and heavier materials (e.g., denim, wool).
• Pays close attention to fabric type, thread color, tension settings, and finishing quality.
• Open to learning new sewing techniques, fashion trends, or specialty garment requirements.
• Wants to grow into roles like Tailor, Patternmaker, Fashion Designer, or Atelier Lead.
