Description:
We’re hiring a Game Writer who knows how to break hearts, build tension, and craft narratives that stay with players long after they put the controller down — someone who treats interactive storytelling as both art and architecture. You’ll shape character arcs, narrative structure, and thematic resonance across an emotionally driven player journey. You’ll be responsible for writing dialogue that sounds real, reads clean, and carries emotional weight — whether it’s a whisper or a monologue. You’ll write dialogue, item descriptions, cinematic scripts, and branching narratives that adapt to player choices and personalities. We expect you to understand voice, tone, and consistency — and know how to make a character feel real in just three lines. You’ll help define narrative pacing across levels, chapters, or acts — mapping tension, revelation, and rest. You’ll help define the tone of the game’s writing — from solemn and serious to strange and darkly funny — and make sure it stays consistent. We’ll rely on your ability to write with clarity across tones — whether it’s light banter, emotional confession, or philosophical tension. You’ll contribute to naming, world logic, and content polish — even in the small stuff like flavor text or tutorial VO.
Basic Qualifications:
- Adjust writing to fit visual storytelling—sometimes showing is better than telling.
- Write stories players don’t just read or hear—but remember long after the game ends.
- Document lore, characters, and storylines so other teams can reference and build on them.
- Champion the player’s perspective—how will this moment feel, sound, or land emotionally?
- Work within technical constraints like line length, localization limits, or voiceover timing.
Preferred:
- Familiar with content pipelines and how written assets are implemented in game engines like Unity or Unreal.
- Can contribute to main storylines, side quests, character banter, or interactive tutorials.
- Experience writing dialogue, character arcs, and storylines for games, interactive fiction, or narrative-driven experiences.
- Comfortable writing for different tones, genres, and gameplay types — from fantasy RPGs to sci-fi shooters or mobile puzzlers.
- Values interactivity, emotional depth, and player engagement in every story decision.
Benefits:
- Feedback is kind, direct, and nerdy — just how writers like it.
- Write from anywhere — a dark cave, a cozy café, or your gamer throne.
- Access to writing tools, AI assist, reference libraries, and dev consoles.
- We build worlds together — your lore becomes part of the canon.
- Pitch plot twists, NPC backstories, or item flavor texts — it all matters.
We expect you to think structurally — how story is revealed, layered, and recontextualized based on pacing and player path. You should be comfortable working in narrative engines or writing within technical pipelines (like Ink, Twine, or proprietary tools). This role is perfect for a writer who loves subtlety, implication, and mystery — someone who builds trust with the player through detail. You’ll work within complex branching systems, making sure emotional payoff doesn’t get lost in technical flowcharts. You’ll participate in creative brainstorms, pitch missions, and help shape the game’s emotional identity from the inside out. We value writers who listen, revise, and solve narrative problems in ways that serve gameplay first. If you believe storytelling in games is interactive, reactive, and deeply human — this is the world we want to build with you. Let’s create interactive stories that don’t just entertain, but leave a mark.
