Description:

We’re hiring a Librarian Trainee to support our academic library team — ideal for someone who’s detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and passionate about learning in a higher education setting. You’ll begin by learning how to assist students and faculty in locating research materials, textbooks, and scholarly articles. You’ll assist with checking out materials, helping parents find age-appropriate books, and recommending popular titles to young readers. You’ll help manage textbook reserves, printing services, and study room reservations at the circulation desk. You’ll help process new arrivals by labeling, stamping, and preparing books, DVDs, and magazines for circulation. You’ll support inventory and shelf maintenance, making sure materials are correctly shelved, clean, and easy to find. You’ll assist with research requests from historians, students, or institutions looking for specific materials. You’ll assist in logging children’s reading progress during seasonal programs like summer reading challenges. You’ll help prepare displays and bulletin boards to highlight seasonal themes, new arrivals, or local events.

Basic Qualifications:

• Train and supervise library assistants, volunteers, or interns when needed.
• Take pride in making the library not just a place for books, but a hub for lifelong learning.
• Provide instruction on how to use library databases, search tools, and public computers.
• Oversee the acquisition of new books, periodicals, and digital materials based on community demand.
• Track metrics like visitor stats, program attendance, or material circulation for reporting.

Preferred:

• Able to assist patrons with research, book searches, and accessing online resources or archives.
• Organized in maintaining catalog records, shelving systems, and overdue tracking procedures.
• Familiar with library catalog software (e.g., Koha, Aleph, Sierra) and digital databases.
