Description:

We’re hiring a Game Writer who can craft characters players will love, hate, and never forget — someone who understands that great storytelling in games is about choice, emotion, and consequence. You’ll be responsible for crafting compelling narratives, characters, and lore that breathe life into our worlds and gameplay loops. You’ll write witty, grounded, or intense dialogue — depending on the tone of the world — and make sure each character has a voice of their own. You’ll write dialogue, item descriptions, cinematic scripts, and branching narratives that adapt to player choices and personalities. You’ll pitch quest ideas, side missions, and story-driven mechanics that align with tone and structure. You’ll develop character arcs that evolve with the player, making each interaction feel part of a larger journey. You’ll contribute to character creation by defining motivations, flaws, and relationships that evolve over time. You’ll guide the tone and emotional register of each interaction, making sure the player feels immersed and connected. You’ll review gameplay and provide story-driven context to make every mechanic feel like part of a larger world.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Collaborate in narrative design meetings to brainstorm quests, scenes, or major plot beats.
  • Write immersive dialogue, character backstories, and narrative arcs that bring game worlds to life.
  • Contribute to worldbuilding by creating lore, cultures, and histories that deepen the setting.
  • Work within technical constraints like line length, localization limits, or voiceover timing.
  • Write stories players don’t just read or hear—but remember long after the game ends.

Preferred:

  • Able to balance narrative ambition with practical limitations like localization, animation timing, or budget constraints.
  • Organized with maintaining narrative bibles, dialogue spreadsheets, and revision logs.
  • Willing to adapt writing based on voiceover delivery, motion capture performance, or animation timing.
  • Open to iterating story content based on gameplay changes, level design feedback, or QA testing outcomes.
  • Can write character bios, item descriptions, quest text, and in-game journal entries with consistent voice and tone.

Benefits:

  • And yes — we love when you hide deep lore in item descriptions no one reads.
  • You shape stories players will remember — not just filler dialogue.
  • Flexible hours — the muse doesn’t run on a 9-to-5 schedule.
  • Gamers in the team = your readers, your audience, your biggest fans.
  • We test story beats as seriously as mechanics — narrative is gameplay too.

You’ll participate in feedback rounds, iterate quickly, and know when to kill your darlings for the sake of flow or clarity. You’ll assist with naming conventions, in-world writing (signage, books, graffiti), and narrative assets used throughout the game. This role is ideal for a writer who understands games are conversations with the player — and every line is an invitation. This role is ideal for someone who loves language, understands pacing, and respects the player’s agency in storytelling. You’ll work with voiceover directors, localization teams, and editors to ensure quality, clarity, and consistency. We value writers who are flexible, collaborative, and open to iteration based on gameplay needs and design shifts. If you believe games can make people feel more — not just play more — this is where you belong. Let’s build a world that feels ancient, lived-in, and worth getting lost in.
