Description:

We’re hiring a Librarian Trainee to support our academic library team — ideal for someone who’s detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and passionate about learning in a higher education setting. You’ll begin by learning how to organize and shelve children’s books, picture books, chapter books, and early readers by category and age group. You’ll assist with checking out materials, helping parents find age-appropriate books, and recommending popular titles to young readers. You’ll be trained to answer common questions — from finding a specific author to locating quiet study areas or using the catalog. You’ll be trained to use portable scanners and laptops to manage inventory and update user accounts in real time. You’ll support literacy activities like storytime, book clubs, or simple reading games during scheduled visits. You’ll learn how to read aloud with expression and clarity during read-along sessions or group storytelling. You’ll be taught how to support faculty with interlibrary loan requests and help track down hard-to-find materials. You’ll help create finding aids, tags, and descriptions to make archives easier to search and access.

Basic Qualifications:

• Ensure that digital systems—catalogs, e-books, and learning portals—are accessible and functional.
• Take pride in making the library not just a place for books, but a hub for lifelong learning.
• Support literacy development through storytime, tutoring, or educational outreach initiatives.
• Support makerspaces, tech labs, or multimedia rooms if part of the facility's offering.
• Assist with interlibrary loans and special orders to expand access for patrons.

Preferred:

• Thrives in quiet, organized, mission-driven environments focused on education and access.
• Familiar with library catalog software (e.g., Koha, Aleph, Sierra) and digital databases.
• Organized in maintaining catalog records, shelving systems, and overdue tracking procedures.
• Willing to train or supervise interns, volunteers, or junior staff members.
• Experience managing physical and digital collections, including acquisition, classification, and circulation of materials.
