Description:
We’re hiring a Public Utility Worker to help keep city infrastructure clean, safe, and operational — perfect for someone who values hands-on work and community service. You’ll assist with mowing lawns, trimming bushes, and edging pathways to maintain a neat and welcoming appearance in parks and recreation areas. You’ll be trained to operate landscaping equipment such as push mowers, string trimmers, blowers, and ride-on units. You’ll help plant flowers, trees, and shrubs during seasonal projects, following planting plans and soil care standards. You’ll support watering schedules, fertilizing, and pest management using safe, approved methods. You’ll assist with checking water levels, replacing filters, and performing seasonal fountain startup or shutdown procedures. You’ll help inspect and repair walking paths, fences, signs, and trash receptacles as part of routine maintenance. You’ll support seasonal work such as snow shoveling, salting walkways, or removing storm debris during weather events. You’ll be taught proper safety procedures for confined spaces, traffic areas, and exposure to untreated waste or water.
Basic Qualifications:
- Perform maintenance and repair work on public infrastructure such as water lines, sewer systems, or streetlights.
- Ensure work zones are marked properly with signs, cones, or barriers to protect workers and the public.
- Report hazards, vandalism, or equipment malfunctions promptly for timely response.
- Provide excellent service to residents or businesses affected by outages, repairs, or inspections.
- Clear debris from streets, drains, or public areas to maintain functionality and safety.
Preferred:
- Able to set up signs, barricades, or traffic cones to ensure a safe work area.
- Pays attention to safety protocols when working near traffic, construction zones, or underground systems.
- Wants to grow into roles like Crew Leader, Equipment Operator, or Utility Supervisor.
- Experience performing maintenance, repair, or cleaning work in public works, utilities, or municipal services.
- Willing to participate in job-related training, certifications, or equipment operation courses.
Benefits:
- Work outdoors or in the field — you’ll enjoy physical activity and a change of scenery each day.
- Work in a field that offers security — utilities are essential services, ensuring long-term job availability.
- Work that’s both challenging and rewarding — you’ll solve problems and make a direct difference every day.
- A professional, respectful environment — you’ll work with a team that values your skills and contributions.
- Stable pay and bonuses — we reward hard work and dedication to maintaining reliable services.
You’ll support leaf collection, snow removal, and other seasonal tasks depending on weather and park needs. You’ll follow city safety guidelines, wear protective gear, and use traffic cones or warning signs when working roadside. You’ll assist with loading equipment, maintaining vehicles, and restocking fittings and repair materials after each job. You’ll receive guidance on plant identification, irrigation systems, and how to report hazards like broken branches or flooding. You’ll receive guidance from senior staff and ongoing training in city procedures, equipment use, and safety practices. You’ll maintain logs of completed tasks, materials used, and areas serviced throughout your shift. No experience is required — just responsibility, physical readiness, and a strong desire to serve your community directly. If you’re ready to repair, restore, and protect your city while most are asleep, we’re ready to bring you on night duty. If you’re ready to care for the places where the city gathers, strolls, and rests — we’re ready to bring you onto the team.
