Description:

We’re hiring a Librarian Trainee to support our academic library team — ideal for someone who’s detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and passionate about learning in a higher education setting. You’ll begin by learning how to organize and shelve children’s books, picture books, chapter books, and early readers by category and age group. You’ll assist with checking out materials, helping parents find age-appropriate books, and recommending popular titles to young readers. You’ll help patrons browse materials, check out books, and register for library cards right on the spot. You’ll help process new arrivals by labeling, stamping, and preparing books, DVDs, and magazines for circulation. You’ll support inventory and shelf maintenance, making sure materials are correctly shelved, clean, and easy to find. You’ll assist with digital resources, helping patrons access e-books, databases, and computer services. You’ll learn how to handle overdue notices, holds, and interlibrary loan requests with professionalism and care. You’ll gain experience preparing library workshops on research skills, plagiarism avoidance, or citation management.

Basic Qualifications:

• Respond calmly and resourcefully to challenging situations, from tech issues to noise complaints.
• Implement policies to ensure respectful use of materials, computers, and library spaces.
• Take pride in making the library not just a place for books, but a hub for lifelong learning.
• Adapt to different roles—teacher, tech support, researcher, or event host—throughout the day.
• Organize, catalog, and maintain library collections using classification systems like Dewey or LOC.

Preferred:

• Familiar with processing interlibrary loans, managing memberships, and library card registrations.
• Capable of balancing desk duties with behind-the-scenes collection management and programming.
• Familiar with assisting patrons who have disabilities or limited technology access.
• Can support catalog digitization projects, data entry, or archival preservation when needed.
