Description:

We’re hiring a Baker Trainee to join our cozy café team — perfect for someone who loves the smell of fresh pastry and wants to help create baked goods that people enjoy every morning. You’ll begin by learning how to work with specialty flours like almond, oat, rice, and buckwheat while avoiding cross-contamination. You’ll assist in mixing doughs, folding batters, and learning how different ingredients behave under heat and time. You’ll be trained in measuring ingredients precisely and understanding how substitutions affect texture, rise, and flavor. You’ll help monitor baking times and temperatures, rotating trays and adjusting settings under supervision. You’ll support early-morning prep, helping ensure fresh items are ready for opening by the time doors unlock. You’ll assist with decorating pastries and arranging baked goods in the display case in an appealing, inviting way. You’ll assist with keeping the prep area clean, labeled, and stocked — from flour bins to icing bags. You’ll learn how to prep café-style treats like banana bread, cinnamon rolls, and lemon bars that match the mood of the space.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Be prepared to lift heavy bags of ingredients and stand for long periods during production.
  • Track supply needs and report low stock of flour, yeast, eggs, or other essentials.
  • Ensure all items meet consistent taste, texture, and appearance standards.
  • Decorate finished goods with glazes, icings, or toppings depending on style and customer preferences.
  • Log batches, waste, or recipe notes for future reference or quality tracking.

Preferred:

  • Can work independently or take direction in a bakery, café, hotel, or commissary kitchen.
  • Knowledge of dough handling, fermentation, shaping, scoring, and baking techniques for different types of products.
  • Comfortable maintaining cleanliness, following food safety regulations, and using protective equipment.
  • Able to clean equipment, follow closing procedures, and prep for the next day’s production.
  • Willing to assist with early morning or overnight baking shifts depending on production schedules.
