Description:
We’re hiring a Veterinary Assistant to support the care of exotic animals — perfect for someone who’s curious, gentle, and excited to work with species beyond cats and dogs. You’ll assist veterinarians on farms, ranches, and rural homes, caring for livestock, working animals, and outdoor pets. You’ll be trained to handle small, delicate animals safely and without causing stress or injury. You’ll assist in cleaning and sterilizing exam rooms, surgical tools, and cages after each appointment or procedure. You’ll support the intake process by gathering pet histories, weighing animals, and updating patient records accurately. You’ll be trained to respond quickly to signs of distress, notifying veterinary staff immediately during critical changes. You’ll learn how to safely administer medications orally, topically, or via injection depending on species and size. You’ll rotate animals safely for bedding changes, physical support, and hygienic care. You’ll support spay/neuter prep and recovery, helping with pre-op cleaning and post-op monitoring of shelter animals. You’ll help administer medications, apply bandages, or care for wounds under direction from licensed staff.
Basic Qualifications:
- Support veterinarians during exams and procedures by restraining animals safely and gently.
- Administer medications or treatments under the direction of a licensed veterinarian.
- Prepare exam rooms with necessary tools, supplies, and clean linens before each appointment.
- Build trust with clients through empathy, active listening, and clear communication.
- Prepare bodies for cremation or owner pickup with dignity and respect.
Preferred:
- Experience assisting veterinarians or working with animals in clinics, shelters, farms, or grooming settings.
- Thrives in environments where hands-on care, responsibility, and teamwork come together.
- Comfortable handling cats, dogs, and other small or exotic animals during exams, treatments, or grooming.
- Capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment while remaining calm and supportive.
- Able to communicate clearly with pet owners about post-care instructions, appointments, or check-in procedures.
Benefits:
- Job stability in an ever-growing field — animals will always need care, and your role is essential.
- Flexible scheduling — part-time, full-time, and weekend shifts available to fit your lifestyle.
- Recognition for your hard work — your contributions help improve animal lives, and that’s something we celebrate.
- Ongoing training — stay up-to-date with the latest veterinary care and techniques.
- Work alongside compassionate professionals — veterinarians, technicians, and pet owners who value your contributions.
You’ll assist during emergency intakes, trauma triage, and urgent procedures with calm, focused energy. You’ll speak with adopters or foster families during pickups, helping explain feeding, meds, or transition tips. You’ll communicate with owners about habitat conditions, diet, and enrichment tips under veterinary guidance. You’ll be expected to lift, carry, and stay on your feet for long periods — sometimes in extreme weather or remote terrain. You’ll receive training in animal behavior, kennel safety, and compassionate sheltering principles. This role is ideal for someone interested in large-animal care, agricultural medicine, or mixed-practice veterinary work. This role is perfect for someone who believes every animal deserves a second chance and wants to be part of that journey. If you’re ready to care for animals when they need it most, we’re ready to train you in veterinary inpatient support. If you’re ready to clean kennels, comfort pets, and help them heal, we’re ready to welcome you into our clinic family.
