Description:
We’re seeking a Game Writer who can build worlds from the inside out — someone who understands that a single journal entry, mural, or whispered line can deepen immersion and define a universe. You’ll shape character arcs, narrative structure, and thematic resonance across an emotionally driven player journey. You’ll collaborate closely with narrative designers, quest developers, and world builders to integrate story naturally into gameplay. You’ll write dialogue, item descriptions, cinematic scripts, and branching narratives that adapt to player choices and personalities. You’ll help shape the game’s lore, faction histories, and moral dilemmas that define the player’s journey. You’ll develop character arcs that evolve with the player, making each interaction feel part of a larger journey. You’ll contribute to character creation by defining motivations, flaws, and relationships that evolve over time. You’ll help structure how information is delivered — through environment, collectibles, NPCs, and interactive moments. You’ll review gameplay and provide story-driven context to make every mechanic feel like part of a larger world.
Basic Qualifications:
- Develop branching narratives, quests, and outcomes that react to player choices.
- Write immersive dialogue, character backstories, and narrative arcs that bring game worlds to life.
- Adjust writing to fit visual storytelling—sometimes showing is better than telling.
- Playtest the game regularly to ensure the narrative feels smooth and engaging in context.
- Pitch new storylines, characters, or content updates that keep the game world fresh.
Preferred:
- Thrives in creative, systems-driven environments where story and gameplay work hand in hand.
- Pays attention to pacing, emotional beats, and player agency within nonlinear storytelling structures.
- Able to maintain deadlines and version control while collaborating remotely or on-site.
- Open to writing gender-neutral or localized content with cultural sensitivity and accessibility in mind.
- Willing to adapt writing based on voiceover delivery, motion capture performance, or animation timing.
Benefits:
- We test story beats as seriously as mechanics — narrative is gameplay too.
- Mental health check-ins and days off when your plot twist hits *you* too hard.
- Worldbuilding sessions that start with “what if?” and end with “let’s ship it.”
- Experiment with branching paths, moral dilemmas, and emotional gut punches.
- Write for main quests, side stories, item descriptions, loading screens — the whole world.
You’ll assist in naming quests, writing tooltips, and refining micro-copy that adds polish and depth. You’ll collaborate with level designers to embed story into the world — not just as text, but as space, silence, and symbol. You’ll be involved in script reviews, localization support, and VO direction to ensure tone carries across languages and voices. You’ll work within complex branching systems, making sure emotional payoff doesn’t get lost in technical flowcharts. You’ll participate in creative brainstorms, pitch missions, and help shape the game’s emotional identity from the inside out. We want someone who can write with both structure and spontaneity, and who respects the rhythm of gameplay as much as the plot. If you believe the most powerful stories are the ones players piece together themselves — this is your kind of job. Let’s create stories players don’t just follow — but shape, question, and carry with them long after the credits roll.
