Description:

We’re hiring a Librarian Trainee to support our children’s library team — ideal for someone who enjoys books, creativity, and working with kids in a welcoming environment. You’ll assist in loading and organizing books, magazines, and multimedia materials into the mobile library van or bus before each route. You’ll assist with checking out materials, helping parents find age-appropriate books, and recommending popular titles to young readers. You’ll be trained to input metadata, create digital records, and support the digitization of historical materials. You’ll be trained to create colorful displays and book-themed bulletin boards that make the space inviting and engaging. You’ll support inventory and shelf maintenance, making sure materials are correctly shelved, clean, and easy to find. You’ll assist with digital resources, helping patrons access e-books, databases, and computer services. You’ll learn how to restock the vehicle based on community interest and monitor what gets borrowed at each location. You’ll help create finding aids, tags, and descriptions to make archives easier to search and access.

Basic Qualifications:

• Keep current with publishing trends, reference tools, and emerging technologies in information science.
• Assist patrons in finding books, research materials, and digital resources tailored to their needs.
• Maintain a quiet, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere for study, learning, and exploration.
• Support makerspaces, tech labs, or multimedia rooms if part of the facility's offering.
• Assist students or researchers with citations, academic sources, or archival materials.

Preferred:

• Organized in maintaining catalog records, shelving systems, and overdue tracking procedures.
• Pays attention to metadata accuracy, Dewey Decimal Classification, or Library of Congress standards.
• Comfortable conducting library orientations, workshops, or literacy programs for diverse age groups.
• Capable of balancing desk duties with behind-the-scenes collection management and programming.
• Thrives in quiet, organized, mission-driven environments focused on education and access.
