Description:

We’re hiring a Librarian Trainee to assist in the archives department — ideal for someone who appreciates history, structure, and preserving valuable information for future generations. You’ll assist in loading and organizing books, magazines, and multimedia materials into the mobile library van or bus before each route. You’ll learn how to set up temporary reading stations at schools, senior centers, rural stops, or community events. You’ll help patrons browse materials, check out books, and register for library cards right on the spot. You’ll help inventory boxes, sort through donations, and assess what should be preserved, stored, or restored. You’ll learn how to prepare materials for climate-controlled storage, using acid-free folders, boxes, and careful labeling. You’ll learn how to read aloud with expression and clarity during read-along sessions or group storytelling. You’ll be taught how to support faculty with interlibrary loan requests and help track down hard-to-find materials. You’ll gain experience maintaining a welcoming, flexible space in a small but functional mobile environment.

Basic Qualifications:

• Support literacy development through storytime, tutoring, or educational outreach initiatives.
• Provide instruction on how to use library databases, search tools, and public computers.
• Assist students or researchers with citations, academic sources, or archival materials.
• Recommend books and resources based on reader interests, age, or research topics.
• Manage budgets, grant applications, or donations for expanding programs and resources.

Preferred:

• Understands how to support information literacy, digital safety, and research skills among students or the public.
• Comfortable supervising quiet study areas, assisting with printers/computers, or managing room bookings.
• Values learning, inclusivity, and service in every interaction with patrons.
• Organized in maintaining catalog records, shelving systems, and overdue tracking procedures.
• Willing to enforce library rules respectfully and de-escalate disturbances when necessary.
