Description:

We’re hiring a Veterinary Assistant to support daily care at our animal shelter — perfect for someone who’s compassionate, patient, and ready to help pets in transition find healing and hope. You’ll assist veterinarians and technicians during exams, treatments, and procedures, ensuring animals are calm and secure. You’ll be trained to handle small, delicate animals safely and without causing stress or injury. You’ll assist with physical exams of cattle, horses, goats, sheep, pigs, and outdoor dogs, ensuring proper restraint and comfort. You’ll assist with health assessments, logging weight, temperature, condition, and any visible injuries or stress signals. You’ll be trained to respond quickly to signs of distress, notifying veterinary staff immediately during critical changes. You’ll assist with medical documentation, recordkeeping, and reporting findings during field visits or wellness rounds. You’ll assist during emergencies such as injured strays arriving or outbreaks requiring isolation and sanitation protocols. You’ll clean and sanitize ICU cages, floors, and equipment multiple times per shift while maintaining quiet and order. You’ll help administer medications, apply bandages, or care for wounds under direction from licensed staff.

Basic Qualifications:

• Adapt to changing schedules, urgent cases, or emotional situations with flexibility.
• Sterilize instruments and prepare surgical packs for upcoming operations.
• Assist during euthanasia procedures with compassion and professionalism.
• Help manage inventory by restocking medications, food, and clinic supplies.
• Assist with collecting samples such as blood, urine, or feces for lab testing.

Preferred:

• Wants to grow into roles like Veterinary Technician, Animal Nurse, or Vet Clinic Manager.
• Team-oriented and ready to assist veterinarians, vet techs, or reception staff when needed.
• Familiar with cleaning cages, exam rooms, surgical instruments, and medical equipment following hygiene protocols.
• Organized in maintaining medical records, labeling medications, and preparing treatment areas.
• Experience assisting veterinarians or working with animals in clinics, shelters, farms, or grooming settings.
