Description:

We’re looking for a Trainee Tailor who’s ready to learn one of the most respected and useful trades — tailoring. If you’ve never touched a sewing machine before, don’t worry — we’ll guide you through every stitch. You’ll begin with the basics: folding fabric, threading needles, and understanding the rhythm of the sewing machine. You’ll observe quiet hands at work — cutting, stitching, pressing — and begin to understand the elegance of the process. You’ll start working on simple repairs — loose seams, button replacements, and basic hems. You’ll observe experienced tailors as they work on suits, dresses, uniforms, and more — and slowly begin to try it yourself. We’ll teach you how to press garments properly, mark alterations accurately, and avoid common beginner mistakes. You’ll also learn hand-stitching techniques for delicate fixes and invisible seams. Expect to build both technical skills and artistic judgment — tailoring is as much about feel as it is about tools.

Basic Qualifications:

• Train apprentices or assistants on stitching, fitting, and finishing techniques when applicable.
• Measure clients accurately using tape measures and fitting techniques to ensure custom garments or alterations fit precisely.
• Ultimately, craft clothes that feel personal, fit flawlessly, and bring confidence to every client who wears them.
• Handle minor repairs such as fixing zippers, replacing buttons, patching holes, or re-stitching seams quickly and efficiently.
• Perform basic embroidery, patchwork, or design embellishments when requested by clients or fashion stylists.

Preferred:

• Comfortable interacting with customers for fittings and design consultations in a professional manner.
• Understands garment construction and how to disassemble and rebuild pieces for a better fit.
• Proficient in sewing, altering, and repairing garments by hand or using industrial sewing machines.
• Familiar with different stitching techniques, patterns, and finishing methods for a clean, professional look.
• Enjoys helping people look and feel their best in clothing that fits perfectly.
