Description:
We’re hiring a Public Transport Inspector to focus on the technical inspection of vehicles — perfect for someone who’s detail-oriented, mechanically curious, and committed to public safety standards. You’ll be responsible for monitoring transit vehicles and routes to confirm adherence to schedules, cleanliness standards, and safety regulations. You’ll check braking systems, lighting, signaling devices, doors, suspension, and emergency equipment according to checklists. You’ll assist in checking lighting, signage, and platform systems to confirm visibility and functionality during low-light hours. You’ll inspect interiors for cleanliness, accessibility, proper signage, and functioning ticket validators or displays. You’ll observe passenger behavior during peak hours and report unsafe activity, suspicious items, or escalator hazards promptly. You’ll assist drivers or conductors by verifying their logs, reporting delays, and confirming security camera operation. You’ll rotate through different lines and zones to increase your visibility and presence across the system throughout the night. You’ll patrol transfer points, stations, and popular stops during peak hours to ensure consistent presence and support.
Basic Qualifications:
- Prepare detailed reports on incidents, violations, or irregularities observed during inspections.
- Document all actions taken during shifts for review, auditing, or enforcement follow-up.
- Ensure accessibility standards are met for passengers with disabilities or mobility needs.
- Issue warnings or fines to fare evaders in accordance with local transport authority guidelines.
- Work closely with drivers, controllers, and law enforcement to ensure smooth operations.
Preferred:
- Familiar with uniforms, ID badges, and professional appearance requirements when representing the agency.
- Capable of resolving disputes calmly and de-escalating tense situations between passengers or staff.
- Organized in tracking daily observations, submitting reports, and following up on complaints or compliance issues.
- Physically fit and able to stand, walk, or travel frequently between transport vehicles and terminals.
- Background or interest in public service, transport systems, or civic compliance.
Benefits:
- You’re not just enforcing rules — you’re helping people get to their destinations safely and on time.
- Access to mental health support — we know the job can be challenging, and we offer resources to help.
- You play a key role in the community — ensuring reliable and safe public transportation for everyone.
- Stability in an essential field — people will always need public transportation, and you’re the one ensuring it’s safe.
- Flexible shifts — full-time, part-time, and rotating shifts available, so you can find the balance that works for you.
You’ll document nighttime activity, incident logs, and inspection summaries with detail and accuracy. You’ll rotate through different lines, stations, and time zones — including early mornings, evenings, and occasional overnight shifts. You’ll be expected to walk, stand, ride, and occasionally drive between transit points throughout your shift. You’ll maintain clear and calm communication during disruptions to ensure passengers feel informed and supported. You’ll be mentored by senior inspectors who will show you how to balance authority with respect and efficiency with fairness. You’ll be mentored by senior inspectors experienced in night operations and rapid response situations. No experience is required — just confidence, honesty, and the ability to stand for long periods and stay calm under pressure. No prior technical experience is required — just a strong eye for detail, willingness to learn, and comfort around machinery. If you're ready to help keep public vehicles reliable, safe, and road-ready, we’re ready to train you as a transport inspector.
