Description:

We’re hiring a Public Utility Worker to help keep city infrastructure clean, safe, and operational — perfect for someone who values hands-on work and community service. You’ll assist in inspecting and repairing road surfaces, curbs, storm drains, and crosswalks during low-traffic hours. You’ll be trained to operate landscaping equipment such as push mowers, string trimmers, blowers, and ride-on units. You’ll help plant flowers, trees, and shrubs during seasonal projects, following planting plans and soil care standards. You’ll support watering schedules, fertilizing, and pest management using safe, approved methods. You’ll assist with checking water levels, replacing filters, and performing seasonal fountain startup or shutdown procedures. You’ll help prep event spaces, install signage or barricades, and support public gatherings by setting up benches, bins, or barriers. You’ll support seasonal work such as snow shoveling, salting walkways, or removing storm debris during weather events. You’ll work closely with traffic control teams, utility supervisors, and dispatch during emergency or planned overnight work.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Support seasonal operations such as snow removal, street sweeping, or leaf collection when required.
  • Use detection tools to identify gas leaks, pressure drops, or flow disruptions.
  • Maintain vehicles and tools by checking for wear, damage, and performing routine servicing.
  • Be physically prepared for demanding outdoor labor including lifting, digging, and climbing.
  • Follow safety protocols, wear protective gear, and comply with local regulations during all fieldwork.

Preferred:

  • Willing to support cleanup operations after storms, roadwork, or public gatherings.
  • Familiar with environmental regulations, public safety standards, and sanitation procedures.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and performing physically demanding tasks.
  • Capable of inspecting and maintaining public infrastructure like storm drains, hydrants, water lines, or park facilities.
  • Capable of working independently or in a team to meet deadlines and service goals.

Benefits:

  • A job with impact — your work provides essential services that keep the community functioning.
  • Competitive pay — your work in maintaining public utilities is well-compensated and valued.
  • Recognition for your hard work — public utility workers are essential, and your contributions don’t go unnoticed.
  • Job stability in a critical sector — utilities are always needed, making your role indispensable.
  • Paid training and certifications — we invest in your professional growth and safety.

You’ll follow safety protocols while working near water features, traffic edges, or high-foot-traffic areas. You’ll follow city safety guidelines, wear protective gear, and use traffic cones or warning signs when working roadside. You’ll rotate across neighborhoods, business districts, and industrial roads, adjusting to shifting nightly priorities. You’ll gain experience in both reactive and planned utility work, supporting clean water access and public sanitation. You’ll receive ongoing safety training and mentorship focused on night visibility, noise protocols, and accident prevention. You’ll help track tasks completed, materials used, and areas serviced each day on digital or paper logs. No previous experience is required — just a strong work ethic, physical stamina, and a desire to keep your city clean and functional. This role is great for someone who values calm, rhythm, and helping create a clean space people can enjoy every day. If you’re ready to work below the surface to keep your city flowing, we’re ready to train you from the ground up.
