Description:

We’re hiring a Seamstress Trainee to support our costume department — perfect for someone who’s creative, flexible, and excited to help bring characters to life through clothing. You’ll begin by assisting with simple repairs such as sewing on buttons, fixing loose hems, and reinforcing seams. You’ll assist in sewing specific garment sections such as sleeves, pockets, collars, or waistbands depending on your station. You’ll be trained to sew straight lines, curves, hems, darts, and zippers with increasing precision and control. You’ll learn how to reinforce seams, add hidden snaps or Velcro for stage changes, and hem garments to suit choreography or blocking. You’ll support alterations ranging from subtle hem lifts to full silhouette reshaping, under the guidance of expert seamstresses. You’ll learn how to add custom elements like lace appliqués, bust cups, buttons, and corset back closures. You’ll be taught how to press garments properly using steamers and irons to give each piece a polished look. You’ll help track inventory, log finished repairs, and prepare garments for pickup or delivery using order systems.

Basic Qualifications:

• Practice safe handling of needles, scissors, and cutting tools in a shared space.
• Consult on fabric choice, style, or custom modifications when asked for input.
• Communicate clearly with clients about alteration timelines, design requests, and garment care.
• Work with a variety of materials including silk, denim, wool, and stretch fabrics.
• Track orders, manage deadlines, and keep detailed notes for each customer or project.

Preferred:

• Understands safety procedures for machine operation and workplace cleanliness.
• Open to learning new sewing techniques, fashion trends, or specialty garment requirements.
• Willing to support inventory management, fabric sourcing, or accessory assembly when required.
• Comfortable using patterns, mannequins, or digital design tools when needed.
• Understands garment construction and tailoring methods to ensure fit, drape, and comfort.
