Description:
We’re hiring a Veterinary Assistant to support our inpatient care and ICU — ideal for someone who stays calm under pressure and wants to help animals during their most vulnerable moments. You’ll assist veterinarians and technicians during exams, treatments, and procedures, ensuring animals are calm and secure. You’ll help load and organize the mobile unit with equipment, vaccines, supplies, and portable diagnostic tools before each visit. You’ll help restrain animals during exams, vaccinations, or intake evaluations with a gentle, calming approach. You’ll support the intake process by gathering pet histories, weighing animals, and updating patient records accurately. You’ll clean and disinfect boots, tools, and mobile gear between sites to avoid cross-contamination. You’ll support oxygen therapy, nebulization, and heating pad use under the direction of veterinary technicians. You’ll help weigh animals, collect fecal or milk samples, and prepare test kits for on-the-go diagnostics. You’ll clean and sanitize ICU cages, floors, and equipment multiple times per shift while maintaining quiet and order. You’ll help administer medications, apply bandages, or care for wounds under direction from licensed staff.
Basic Qualifications:
- Educate pet owners on post-treatment care, feeding routines, and medication schedules.
- Support veterinarians during exams and procedures by restraining animals safely and gently.
- Take pride in making animals feel safe, seen, and cared for—even when they can’t say thank you.
- Follow all safety and sanitation protocols to protect both humans and animals.
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, or continuing education when available.
Preferred:
- Familiar with cleaning cages, exam rooms, surgical instruments, and medical equipment following hygiene protocols.
- Familiar with common veterinary terms, medications, and vaccine schedules.
- Organized in maintaining medical records, labeling medications, and preparing treatment areas.
- Values compassion, attention to detail, and patience in all interactions with animals and owners.
- Comfortable comforting anxious animals or clients and offering reassurance during visits.
Benefits:
- Work alongside compassionate professionals — veterinarians, technicians, and pet owners who value your contributions.
- A fulfilling career — helping animals in need gives you a sense of purpose every day.
- Recognition for your hard work — your contributions help improve animal lives, and that’s something we celebrate.
- Ongoing training — stay up-to-date with the latest veterinary care and techniques.
- Competitive pay — your dedication and care are valued and rewarded fairly.
You’ll assist during emergency intakes, trauma triage, and urgent procedures with calm, focused energy. You’ll speak with adopters or foster families during pickups, helping explain feeding, meds, or transition tips. You’ll communicate with owners about habitat conditions, diet, and enrichment tips under veterinary guidance. You’ll be expected to lift, carry, and stay on your feet for long periods — sometimes in extreme weather or remote terrain. You’ll communicate gently with worried owners during updates, drop-offs, or end-of-life discussions as needed. This role is ideal for someone interested in large-animal care, agricultural medicine, or mixed-practice veterinary work. No prior experience is required — just a deep commitment to animal health, emotional resilience, and attention to detail. If you’re ready to care for animals when they need it most, we’re ready to train you in veterinary inpatient support. If you’re ready to clean kennels, comfort pets, and help them heal, we’re ready to welcome you into our clinic family.
