Description:

We’re hiring a Public Transport Inspector to oversee fare compliance and ensure respectful conduct aboard city transit — ideal for someone who’s fair, observant, and confident in direct communication. You’ll conduct routine inspections of buses, trams, or metro trains to ensure mechanical and structural components meet operational requirements. You’ll monitor train arrival and departure times, checking for delays, mechanical sounds, or irregularities in platform behavior. You’ll be trained to inspect emergency exits, fire extinguishers, lighting systems, and ventilation in accordance with safety codes. You’ll issue citations or warnings for fare evasion based on department protocol, always with clear documentation. You’ll observe passenger behavior during peak hours and report unsafe activity, suspicious items, or escalator hazards promptly. You’ll help enforce quiet hours and support operators in handling noise complaints or inappropriate behavior onboard. You’ll check fare barriers, ticket machines, and validator units for proper function and report malfunctions quickly. You’ll rotate between lines, zones, and times of day to ensure comprehensive monitoring across the system.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Participate in training programs related to safety, regulations, or customer interaction.
  • Issue warnings or fines to fare evaders in accordance with local transport authority guidelines.
  • Ensure accessibility standards are met for passengers with disabilities or mobility needs.
  • Check tickets and passes, verifying passenger compliance with fare regulations.
  • Contribute to service improvement by reporting recurring issues or rider feedback.

Preferred:

  • Able to document violations, prepare incident reports, and cooperate with law enforcement or supervisors when needed.
  • Comfortable interacting with the public in a respectful and assertive manner while maintaining authority.
  • Pays attention to detail when checking accessibility features and compliance with disability support standards.
  • Able to check passenger tickets or passes, verify fare validity, and issue warnings or fines when necessary.
  • Thrives in structured, mission-driven roles where rule enforcement supports safe and reliable travel.

Benefits:

  • Stable hours and predictable shifts — you'll know exactly when you're working.
  • You’ll work in a structured, fair environment where you’re valued as a vital part of the team.
  • Job security — public transport is essential, and your role is critical to keeping it running smoothly.
  • Clear performance feedback — we support your success with regular check-ins and growth opportunities.
  • Ongoing training and development — we support your growth with regular updates on safety standards and procedures.

You’ll coordinate with mechanics, maintenance supervisors, and dispatch to flag and remove unsafe vehicles from rotation. You’ll be responsible for submitting daily reports on citations issued, incidents handled, and unusual rider behavior. You’ll work in pairs or small teams to ensure safety and coverage across different routes or areas. You’ll rotate shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, depending on traffic and inspection targets. You’ll receive advanced training on vehicle systems, safety codes, and risk documentation procedures. You’ll be mentored by senior fare inspectors who understand how to apply rules fairly without unnecessary conflict. No prior experience is required — just professionalism, integrity, and the willingness to be a visible part of a vital system. No experience is required — just a strong sense of responsibility, physical stamina, and comfort in enclosed spaces. If you're ready to keep the underground running safely and smoothly, we’re ready to train you for metro inspection duty.
