Description:

We’re hiring a Librarian Trainee who’s curious, organized, and excited to help people connect with knowledge, stories, and resources every day. You’ll begin by learning how to assist students and faculty in locating research materials, textbooks, and scholarly articles. You’ll learn how to set up temporary reading stations at schools, senior centers, rural stops, or community events. You’ll be trained to input metadata, create digital records, and support the digitization of historical materials. You’ll support digital literacy by helping students access e-books, log into library accounts, or troubleshoot Wi-Fi and printer issues. You’ll learn how to prepare materials for climate-controlled storage, using acid-free folders, boxes, and careful labeling. You’ll help set up academic displays that highlight new research, university achievements, or relevant resources by department. You’ll be taught how to support faculty with interlibrary loan requests and help track down hard-to-find materials. You’ll gain experience answering common questions from parents and teachers about literacy levels, educational resources, or program schedules.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Keep current with publishing trends, reference tools, and emerging technologies in information science.
  • Maintain a quiet, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere for study, learning, and exploration.
  • Organize, catalog, and maintain library collections using classification systems like Dewey or LOC.
  • Recommend books and resources based on reader interests, age, or research topics.
  • Ensure that digital systems—catalogs, e-books, and learning portals—are accessible and functional.

Preferred:

  • Capable of developing resource guides, reading lists, and thematic displays based on seasonal or cultural topics.
  • Willing to enforce library rules respectfully and de-escalate disturbances when necessary.
  • Familiar with library catalog software (e.g., Koha, Aleph, Sierra) and digital databases.
  • Experience managing physical and digital collections, including acquisition, classification, and circulation of materials.
  • Keeps up with trends in literacy, e-books, and modern information services.

Benefits:

  • You’re not just organizing materials — you’re connecting people to what they need most.
  • No loud meetings, no chaotic rush — just steady, meaningful impact.
  • Flexible hours that respect your brain’s rhythm — early bird or afternoon owl, we’ve got shifts.
  • You’re not “just a librarian” — you’re a quiet superhero of public knowledge.
  • No dress code pressure — come as you are, cardigan and all.

You’ll gain exposure to both analog and digital preservation — from microfilm to cloud-based storage systems. You’ll receive training in privacy and data protection, learning how to keep patron information safe and confidential. You’ll learn how to gently redirect noisy behavior and support a calm but fun environment. You’ll help keep the mobile library clean, organized, and fully charged for each day’s schedule. You’ll receive training on copyright, citation, and reproduction procedures for archival materials. You’ll collaborate with librarians, curators, and community historians to understand the broader impact of archival work. No experience is needed — just a love for learning, strong attention to detail, and a helpful attitude. This internship is great for someone interested in community service, education, or mobile outreach programs. If you’re ready to help students succeed behind the scenes, we’re ready to train you in the heart of the university library.
