Description:
We’re hiring a Public Transport Inspector to help ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of buses, trams, or metro systems across the city — perfect for someone who’s detail-oriented, calm under pressure, and committed to public service. You’ll ride buses, trams, or metro cars throughout the day performing random ticket inspections and checking for valid fare media. You’ll conduct random checks on vehicles and platforms, verifying driver conduct, passenger behavior, and service punctuality. You’ll assist in checking lighting, signage, and platform systems to confirm visibility and functionality during low-light hours. You’ll issue citations or warnings for fare evasion based on department protocol, always with clear documentation. You’ll respond to incidents such as breakdowns, delays, overcrowding, or safety complaints with professionalism and composure. You’ll assist in testing equipment such as ramps, lift systems, heating/AC, and wheelchair securement mechanisms. You’ll check fare barriers, ticket machines, and validator units for proper function and report malfunctions quickly. You’ll document any violations of metro regulations, such as fare evasion, disorderly conduct, or platform trespassing.
Basic Qualifications:
- Act as a representative of public service—firm when needed, fair at all times.
- Ensure that vehicle operators follow driving, safety, and customer service protocols.
- Use handheld devices or apps to verify digital tickets or log inspection data accurately.
- Remain visible and professional to deter violations and reassure passengers.
- Contribute to service improvement by reporting recurring issues or rider feedback.
Preferred:
- Pays attention to detail when checking accessibility features and compliance with disability support standards.
- Willing to educate passengers on fare rules, boarding etiquette, and transit policies when needed.
- Open to working rotating shifts, including weekends, early mornings, or late nights.
- Experience working in public transportation, security, logistics, or regulatory roles.
- Capable of resolving disputes calmly and de-escalating tense situations between passengers or staff.
Benefits:
- Job security — public transport is essential, and your role is critical to keeping it running smoothly.
- Stable hours and predictable shifts — you'll know exactly when you're working.
- Clear performance feedback — we support your success with regular check-ins and growth opportunities.
- Access to employee perks — discounts and deals with transport services, local businesses, and more.
- Flexible shifts — full-time, part-time, and rotating shifts available, so you can find the balance that works for you.
You’ll wear a uniform, carry ID, and represent the authority of the transit agency while remaining approachable and respectful. You’ll support customer service by answering rider questions, providing directions, or distributing service update materials during inspections. You’ll rotate through depots, garages, and yards during early morning or overnight hours to complete pre-shift inspections. You’ll work in all types of weather and interact with a wide range of passengers, from commuters to tourists to schoolchildren. You’ll receive advanced training on vehicle systems, safety codes, and risk documentation procedures. You’ll be mentored by senior fare inspectors who understand how to apply rules fairly without unnecessary conflict. No previous experience is required — just reliability, strong observational skills, and comfort working after dark. No prior technical experience is required — just a strong eye for detail, willingness to learn, and comfort around machinery. If you're ready to help keep public vehicles reliable, safe, and road-ready, we’re ready to train you as a transport inspector.
