Description:
We’re looking for a Game Writer who can turn mechanics into meaning, quests into emotions, and dialogue into unforgettable moments — someone who sees games not just as systems, but as stories you live inside. You’ll help create lore, cultures, timelines, and mythologies that give the game’s setting weight and texture. You’ll collaborate with designers, artists, and developers to align story beats with mechanics, pacing, and level structure. You’ll write dialogue, item descriptions, cinematic scripts, and branching narratives that adapt to player choices and personalities. You’ll contribute to narrative systems that allow story fragments to unfold gradually, rewarding curiosity and attention. You’ll design factions, belief systems, and regional identities that shape both the world and its characters. You’ll contribute to character creation by defining motivations, flaws, and relationships that evolve over time. We’ll rely on your ability to write with clarity across tones — whether it’s light banter, emotional confession, or philosophical tension. You’ll also work with VO directors and localization partners to ensure lines land emotionally across cultures and performances.
Basic Qualifications:
- Maintain spreadsheets or tools that track branching dialogue and quest logic.
- Write item descriptions, loading screen tips, journal entries, and other flavor text that enhance immersion.
- Support cinematic scriptwriting with clear formatting, direction, and emotional nuance.
- Pitch new storylines, characters, or content updates that keep the game world fresh.
- Edit and refine scripts based on pacing, playtests, and team feedback.
Preferred:
- Comfortable working in cross-functional teams with designers, artists, and audio professionals.
- Values interactivity, emotional depth, and player engagement in every story decision.
- Pays attention to pacing, emotional beats, and player agency within nonlinear storytelling structures.
- Can pitch story concepts, write treatment documents, and create dialogue samples for review.
- Knows how to write text that supports gameplay clarity without overwhelming the player.
Benefits:
- And yes — we love when you hide deep lore in item descriptions no one reads.
- Your name in the credits — not buried under “additional writing support.”
- Weekly narrative syncs where we workshop, laugh, and sometimes cry.
- Flexible hours — the muse doesn’t run on a 9-to-5 schedule.
- Feedback is kind, direct, and nerdy — just how writers like it.
We expect you to think structurally — how story is revealed, layered, and recontextualized based on pacing and player path. You’ll use branching dialogue, collectibles, and environmental clues to deliver story in a nonlinear, player-driven way. You’ll be involved in script reviews, localization support, and VO direction to ensure tone carries across languages and voices. This role is ideal for someone who thinks deeply about character arcs, player psychology, and emotional payoff. This role is ideal for a writer who thinks cinematically, edits like a screenwriter, and plays like a poet. We want someone who can write with both structure and spontaneity, and who respects the rhythm of gameplay as much as the plot. If you believe storytelling in games is interactive, reactive, and deeply human — this is the world we want to build with you. Let’s build dialogue trees that players *want* to explore, from the sarcastic rogue to the tearful final boss.
