Description:

We’re hiring a Public Utility Worker to help keep city infrastructure clean, safe, and operational — perfect for someone who values hands-on work and community service. You’ll assist in inspecting and repairing road surfaces, curbs, storm drains, and crosswalks during low-traffic hours. You’ll help set up work zones, mark utility lines, and place traffic cones or signage for public and crew safety. You’ll support daily trash pickup, graffiti removal, and litter patrols to ensure a welcoming and clean atmosphere for all visitors. You’ll be trained to use small equipment like leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, pressure washers, and push mowers safely. You’ll assist with checking water levels, replacing filters, and performing seasonal fountain startup or shutdown procedures. You’ll help inspect and repair walking paths, fences, signs, and trash receptacles as part of routine maintenance. You’ll be taught how to respond to urgent reports like fallen signage, sinkholes, or blocked storm drains quickly and safely. You’ll rotate through landmark zones such as waterfront rails, civic monuments, observation points, or viewing decks.

Basic Qualifications:

• Adapt to changing weather conditions, urgent calls, or rotating shifts without compromising safety.
• Ensure work zones are marked properly with signs, cones, or barriers to protect workers and the public.
• Work independently or in crews to complete assignments efficiently and professionally.
• Operate and maintain equipment like jackhammers, pumps, or utility trucks in a safe and efficient manner.
• Read utility maps, blueprints, or schematics to locate underground lines and plan repairs.

Preferred:

• Able to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts depending on public service needs.
• Thrives in active, team-oriented environments where public service and reliability are key.
• Capable of working independently or in a team to meet deadlines and service goals.
• Experience performing maintenance, repair, or cleaning work in public works, utilities, or municipal services.
• Follows directions from supervisors and reads site plans, blueprints, or instructions for job assignments.

You’ll rotate between emergency calls and preventative maintenance tasks under the direction of senior crew members. You’ll gain experience in both reactive and planned utility work, supporting clean water access and public sanitation. You’ll rotate between multiple parks and green spaces in your district to keep each area consistent and well-maintained.
