We’re hiring a Public Utility Worker to assist with water and sewer system maintenance — ideal for someone who’s dependable, safety-minded, and ready to support vital infrastructure every day. You’ll perform a variety of outdoor maintenance tasks including street cleaning, park upkeep, and facility support. You’ll assist with removing litter, sweeping sidewalks, and emptying trash bins in public areas on a set schedule. You’ll help plant flowers, trees, and shrubs during seasonal projects, following planting plans and soil care standards. You’ll be trained to use small equipment like leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, pressure washers, and push mowers safely. You’ll help flush hydrants, clean storm drains, and clear catch basins to ensure proper flow during heavy rain. You’ll learn how to document service activity, collect water samples, and report pressure or quality issues accurately. You’ll learn how to prep park facilities for events, including setup of seating, lights, stages, or shelters when needed. You’ll work closely with traffic control teams, utility supervisors, and dispatch during emergency or planned overnight work.
Basic Qualifications:
- Demonstrate accountability by following procedures and completing tasks thoroughly.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members to stay aligned on tasks and priorities.
- Work independently or in crews to complete assignments efficiently and professionally.
- Report hazards, vandalism, or equipment malfunctions promptly for timely response.
- Provide excellent service to residents or businesses affected by outages, repairs, or inspections.
Preferred:
- Familiar with handling chemicals, paints, or cleaning agents in accordance with safety guidelines.
- Willing to participate in job-related training, certifications, or equipment operation courses.
- Able to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, or on-call shifts depending on public service needs.
- Organized in completing daily work orders, time logs, and material usage reports accurately.
- Understands the importance of protecting public infrastructure and keeping communities safe and functional.
Benefits:
- Work in a field that offers security — utilities are essential services, ensuring long-term job availability.

- A professional, respectful environment — you’ll work with a team that values your skills and contributions.
- You’ll make a tangible impact — keeping the lights on, water flowing, and gas available is a critical service.
- Access to employee discounts — on services and products that support your personal and professional life.
You’ll assist in loading materials, fueling machines, and prepping trucks at the start and end of each shift. You’ll be expected to work outdoors in all weather conditions and sometimes assist during weekends or overnight outages. You’ll follow safety procedures while using hand tools, ladders, and equipment in wet, hot, or dusty conditions. You’ll be expected to work outdoors in various conditions, including heat, cold, and rain, with regular physical activity. You’ll receive ongoing safety training and mentorship focused on night visibility, noise protocols, and accident prevention. You’ll help make streets safer and smoother by working when the city is quiet but the job still matters. No prior experience is required — just dependability, physical energy, and a love for keeping nature accessible to all. This role is perfect for someone interested in essential work, municipal careers, or skilled utility operations.
