Description:
We’re hiring a Game Writer who can craft characters players will love, hate, and never forget — someone who understands that great storytelling in games is about choice, emotion, and consequence. You’ll craft storylines, quests, and characters that entertain, surprise, and invite emotional investment without ever slowing the game down. You’ll write quests, item descriptions, NPC dialogue, and in-world documents that players discover through exploration. You’ll write dialogue, item descriptions, cinematic scripts, and branching narratives that adapt to player choices and personalities. We expect you to understand voice, tone, and consistency — and know how to make a character feel real in just three lines. You’ll build rich backstories, world histories, and quest arcs that support immersion and drive exploration. You’ll contribute to character creation by defining motivations, flaws, and relationships that evolve over time. You’ll help structure how information is delivered — through environment, collectibles, NPCs, and interactive moments. We’ll trust you to write with nuance: sometimes quiet, sometimes raw, sometimes poetic — but always human.
Basic Qualifications:
- Collaborate in narrative design meetings to brainstorm quests, scenes, or major plot beats.
- Develop branching narratives, quests, and outcomes that react to player choices.
- Playtest the game regularly to ensure the narrative feels smooth and engaging in context.
- Pitch new storylines, characters, or content updates that keep the game world fresh.
- Support cinematic scriptwriting with clear formatting, direction, and emotional nuance.
Preferred:
- Enjoys crafting meaningful player choices, compelling characters, and rich fictional worlds.
- Able to maintain deadlines and version control while collaborating remotely or on-site.
- Able to balance narrative ambition with practical limitations like localization, animation timing, or budget constraints.
- Familiar with content pipelines and how written assets are implemented in game engines like Unity or Unreal.
- Values interactivity, emotional depth, and player engagement in every story decision.
Benefits:
- And yes — we love when you hide deep lore in item descriptions no one reads.
- Experiment with branching paths, moral dilemmas, and emotional gut punches.
- Pitch plot twists, NPC backstories, or item flavor texts — it all matters.
- Flexible hours — the muse doesn’t run on a 9-to-5 schedule.
- Worldbuilding sessions that start with “what if?” and end with “let’s ship it.”
You’ll assist in naming quests, writing tooltips, and refining micro-copy that adds polish and depth. You’ll help balance humor, tension, lore, and accessibility — knowing when to go deep and when to keep it snappy. This role is ideal for a writer who understands games are conversations with the player — and every line is an invitation. This role is ideal for someone who loves language, understands pacing, and respects the player’s agency in storytelling. You’ll work with voiceover directors, localization teams, and editors to ensure quality, clarity, and consistency. We want someone who can write with both structure and spontaneity, and who respects the rhythm of gameplay as much as the plot. If you think great writing means great pacing, great payoff, and great characters — this is your party. Let’s build a world where every story choice matters, and every conversation stays with the player long after they log off.
