Description:

We’re hiring a Public Utility Worker to help maintain public squares, promenades, and waterfront spaces — perfect for someone who enjoys open-air environments and takes pride in the beauty and order of shared spaces. You’ll assist with mowing lawns, trimming bushes, and edging pathways to maintain a neat and welcoming appearance in parks and recreation areas. You’ll help set up work zones, mark utility lines, and place traffic cones or signage for public and crew safety. You’ll support asphalt patching, pothole filling, and basic concrete work as part of scheduled maintenance routes. You’ll support watering schedules, fertilizing, and pest management using safe, approved methods. You’ll assist with checking water levels, replacing filters, and performing seasonal fountain startup or shutdown procedures. You’ll help identify and report hazards such as broken sidewalks, graffiti, or blocked drains to your supervisor or relevant departments. You’ll be taught how to respond to urgent reports like fallen signage, sinkholes, or blocked storm drains quickly and safely. You’ll work closely with traffic control teams, utility supervisors, and dispatch during emergency or planned overnight work.

Basic Qualifications:

• Inspect utility systems regularly to identify wear, leaks, or potential hazards.
• Assist in troubleshooting electrical, water, or waste systems with senior technicians or supervisors.
• Operate and maintain equipment like jackhammers, pumps, or utility trucks in a safe and efficient manner.
• Support seasonal operations such as snow removal, street sweeping, or leaf collection when required.
• Track and document maintenance activities, time logs, and material usage accurately.

Preferred:

• Capable of working independently or in a team to meet deadlines and service goals.
• Willing to support cleanup operations after storms, roadwork, or public gatherings.
• Familiar with basic tools and equipment used for street, sewer, water, or facility maintenance tasks.
• Comfortable lifting, digging, shoveling, and using hand or power tools for extended periods.
• Capable of inspecting and maintaining public infrastructure like storm drains, hydrants, water lines, or park facilities.

You’ll rotate between emergency calls and preventative maintenance tasks under the direction of senior crew members. You’ll follow detailed work orders and document materials used, zones serviced, and any issues found during inspection. You’ll be expected to work outdoors in various conditions, including heat, cold, and rain, with regular physical activity. You’ll help maintain storage areas, refill maintenance carts, and track supplies used for repairs and cleaning.
