Description:
We’re hiring a Public Utility Worker to help keep city infrastructure clean, safe, and operational — perfect for someone who values hands-on work and community service. You’ll assist in inspecting and repairing road surfaces, curbs, storm drains, and crosswalks during low-traffic hours. You’ll be trained to operate pressure washers, surface sweepers, and water pumps to keep hardscapes spotless and safe. You’ll help plant flowers, trees, and shrubs during seasonal projects, following planting plans and soil care standards. You’ll assist with locating leaks, identifying blockages, and helping repair cracked pipes, joints, or manhole covers. You’ll assist with checking water levels, replacing filters, and performing seasonal fountain startup or shutdown procedures. You’ll learn how to document service activity, collect water samples, and report pressure or quality issues accurately. You’ll support seasonal work such as snow shoveling, salting walkways, or removing storm debris during weather events. You’ll work closely with traffic control teams, utility supervisors, and dispatch during emergency or planned overnight work.
Basic Qualifications:
- Provide excellent service to residents or businesses affected by outages, repairs, or inspections.
- Maintain vehicles and tools by checking for wear, damage, and performing routine servicing.
- Support seasonal operations such as snow removal, street sweeping, or leaf collection when required.
- Follow safety protocols, wear protective gear, and comply with local regulations during all fieldwork.
- Assist in troubleshooting electrical, water, or waste systems with senior technicians or supervisors.
Preferred:
- Capable of working independently or in a team to meet deadlines and service goals.
- Able to operate vehicles such as utility trucks, sweepers, or light construction equipment safely and effectively.
- Willing to assist with emergency repairs, public events setup, or seasonal work like snow removal or landscaping.
- Familiar with basic tools and equipment used for street, sewer, water, or facility maintenance tasks.
- Wants to grow into roles like Crew Leader, Equipment Operator, or Utility Supervisor.
Benefits:
- Competitive pay — your work in maintaining public utilities is well-compensated and valued.
- Safety is a priority — we provide the tools, training, and support to ensure you’re always working in a safe environment.
- Opportunities for career advancement — move up into supervisory or specialized roles as you gain experience.
- Mentorship from experienced professionals — you’ll learn from the best in the field.
- Access to employee discounts — on services and products that support your personal and professional life.
You’ll follow safety protocols while working near water features, traffic edges, or high-foot-traffic areas. You’ll be expected to work outdoors in all weather conditions and sometimes assist during weekends or overnight outages. You’ll follow safety procedures while using hand tools, ladders, and equipment in wet, hot, or dusty conditions. You’ll interact courteously with the public and answer basic questions about services or scheduled activities. You’ll rotate between multiple parks and green spaces in your district to keep each area consistent and well-maintained. You’ll be mentored by senior team members and receive seasonal cross-training across multiple civic zones. No prior experience is required — just dependability, physical energy, and a love for keeping nature accessible to all. If you’re ready to repair, restore, and protect your city while most are asleep, we’re ready to bring you on night duty. If you’re ready to work below the surface to keep your city flowing, we’re ready to train you from the ground up.
