Description:

We’re hiring a Veterinary Assistant to support daily care at our animal shelter — perfect for someone who’s compassionate, patient, and ready to help pets in transition find healing and hope. You’ll assist with hospitalized patients recovering from surgery, trauma, or illness, providing constant observation and comfort. You’ll be trained to handle small, delicate animals safely and without causing stress or injury. You’ll assist with catheter care, fluid therapy, wound dressing changes, and post-op recovery routines. You’ll support the intake process by gathering pet histories, weighing animals, and updating patient records accurately. You’ll help administer medications, treatments, or special diets based on the veterinarian’s plan for each animal. You’ll assist with medical documentation, recordkeeping, and reporting findings during field visits or wellness rounds. You’ll rotate animals safely for bedding changes, physical support, and hygienic care. ) and prepare them for lab testing. You’ll document patient updates clearly in logs or medical software to assist the veterinary team with continuity of care.

Basic Qualifications:

• Take pride in making animals feel safe, seen, and cared for—even when they can’t say thank you.
• Respond quickly in emergencies and support the team in triage situations.
• Follow all safety and sanitation protocols to protect both humans and animals.
• Prepare exam rooms with necessary tools, supplies, and clean linens before each appointment.
• Clean cages, kennels, and surgical areas to maintain a sterile, stress-free environment.

Preferred:

• Knowledge of basic animal anatomy, breeds, nutrition, and preventive care practices.
• Familiar with common veterinary terms, medications, and vaccine schedules.
• Comfortable handling biological waste, using disinfectants, and practicing biosecurity and PPE use.
• Able to restrain animals safely and calmly for procedures like vaccinations, nail trims, or blood draws.
• Able to communicate clearly with pet owners about post-care instructions, appointments, or check-in procedures.
