Description:
We’re hiring a Veterinary Assistant to join our animal care team — perfect for someone who’s compassionate, reliable, and eager to support both pets and their owners through every stage of care. You’ll assist in caring for dogs, cats, and sometimes exotics who’ve been rescued, surrendered, or abandoned. You’ll help load and organize the mobile unit with equipment, vaccines, supplies, and portable diagnostic tools before each visit. You’ll assist with catheter care, fluid therapy, wound dressing changes, and post-op recovery routines. You’ll help administer medications, record dosages, and ensure patients stay on their treatment schedules. You’ll support diagnostic procedures like fecal analysis, blood draws from nontraditional veins, and radiographs for tiny patients. You’ll learn how to safely administer medications orally, topically, or via injection depending on species and size. You’ll assist in setting up UV lighting, humidity controls, heating pads, or misting systems for exotic recovery areas. You’ll support emergency calls involving lameness, colic, birth complications, or animal injuries in barns or fields. You’ll help administer medications, apply bandages, or care for wounds under direction from licensed staff.
Basic Qualifications:
- Administer medications or treatments under the direction of a licensed veterinarian.
- Build trust with clients through empathy, active listening, and clear communication.
- Educate pet owners on post-treatment care, feeding routines, and medication schedules.
- Adapt to changing schedules, urgent cases, or emotional situations with flexibility.
- Work with a variety of animals—dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and sometimes exotic species.
Preferred:
- Comfortable handling cats, dogs, and other small or exotic animals during exams, treatments, or grooming.
- Pays attention to detail when measuring dosages, labeling samples, or updating charts.
- Enjoys helping animals feel safe and cared for while supporting the veterinary team.
- Knowledge of basic animal anatomy, breeds, nutrition, and preventive care practices.
- Willing to work evenings, weekends, or holidays depending on the clinic’s hours and emergencies.
Benefits:
- Health, dental, and retirement benefits — we care about your well-being, both inside and outside of work.
- The ability to make a direct impact — your care and attention to detail matter to every animal you treat.
- Work in a compassionate and supportive environment — we understand the emotional demands of the role and offer a caring workplace.
- Competitive pay — your dedication and care are valued and rewarded fairly.
- Opportunities to work in different areas — surgery prep, animal recovery, emergency care, and more.
You’ll clean and sterilize specialized tools and surfaces to prevent cross-species contamination and ensure biosecurity. You’ll speak with adopters or foster families during pickups, helping explain feeding, meds, or transition tips. You’ll rotate through cat rooms, dog runs, intake, and quarantine areas to gain experience with various care needs. You’ll be expected to maintain strict infection control standards to protect both patients and other animals. No experience is required — just a steady hand, strong observational skills, and fascination with the uncommon. No experience is required — just a big heart, strong stomach, and a deep desire to help animals in need. No prior experience is required — just a love for animals, calm hands, and the ability to stay organized under pressure. If you’re ready to clean messes, calm fears, and cheer for every adoption, we’re ready to train you in shelter care. If you’re ready to clean kennels, comfort pets, and help them heal, we’re ready to welcome you into our clinic family.
