Description:

We’re hiring a Public Transport Inspector to help ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of buses, trams, or metro systems across the city — perfect for someone who’s detail-oriented, calm under pressure, and committed to public service. You’ll monitor late-night bus, tram, and metro services to ensure schedules are followed, stops are respected, and passengers feel safe. You’ll conduct random checks on vehicles and platforms, verifying driver conduct, passenger behavior, and service punctuality. You’ll be trained to inspect emergency exits, fire extinguishers, lighting systems, and ventilation in accordance with safety codes. You’ll issue citations or warnings for fare evasion based on department protocol, always with clear documentation. You’ll use diagnostic tools, hand instruments, and visual assessments to record detailed vehicle condition reports. You’ll help enforce quiet hours and support operators in handling noise complaints or inappropriate behavior onboard. You’ll monitor fuel and fluid levels, tire condition, and battery health as part of preventive maintenance protocols. You’ll document any violations of metro regulations, such as fare evasion, disorderly conduct, or platform trespassing.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Check tickets and passes, verifying passenger compliance with fare regulations.
  • Document all actions taken during shifts for review, auditing, or enforcement follow-up.
  • Work closely with drivers, controllers, and law enforcement to ensure smooth operations.
  • Conduct random or scheduled inspections onboard or at stations during various shifts.
  • Participate in training programs related to safety, regulations, or customer interaction.

Preferred:

  • Able to interpret schedules, maps, and service zones to verify route accuracy and stop coverage.
  • Able to document violations, prepare incident reports, and cooperate with law enforcement or supervisors when needed.
  • Organized in tracking daily observations, submitting reports, and following up on complaints or compliance issues.
  • Values fairness, public safety, and efficiency in transportation oversight.
  • Pays attention to detail when checking accessibility features and compliance with disability support standards.

Benefits:

  • Stability in an essential field — people will always need public transportation, and you’re the one ensuring it’s safe.
  • Team-oriented work culture — you’ll be part of a team that values cooperation and mutual respect.
  • Clear performance feedback — we support your success with regular check-ins and growth opportunities.
  • Opportunities to move into specialized areas — like ticket inspection, safety compliance, or customer service roles.
  • Opportunities to advance — from inspector to supervisor or management roles, the path is clear.

You’ll receive training in conflict de-escalation, transit law, and emergency response procedures specific to public transport. You’ll support customer service by answering rider questions, providing directions, or distributing service update materials during inspections. You’ll work in pairs or small teams to ensure safety and coverage across different routes or areas. You’ll help audit maintenance records, verify service intervals, and confirm that repairs have been completed and signed off. You’ll wear issued gear and maintain a sharp, respectful appearance as a visible part of the metro operations team. You’ll be mentored by senior inspectors who will teach you to notice what others miss — because public safety depends on it. You’ll work in indoor and outdoor conditions, sometimes during poor weather or with limited lighting. If you’re ready to protect the integrity of public transit and ensure everyone rides fairly, we’re ready to train you for inspection duty. If you're ready to keep the underground running safely and smoothly, we’re ready to train you for metro inspection duty.
