Description:
We’re hiring a Librarian Trainee to support our academic library team — ideal for someone who’s detail-oriented, tech-savvy, and passionate about learning in a higher education setting. You’ll assist in loading and organizing books, magazines, and multimedia materials into the mobile library van or bus before each route. You’ll learn how to set up temporary reading stations at schools, senior centers, rural stops, or community events. You’ll be trained to input metadata, create digital records, and support the digitization of historical materials. You’ll support digital literacy by helping students access e-books, log into library accounts, or troubleshoot Wi-Fi and printer issues. You’ll assist with shelving returned materials, updating inventory, and maintaining the quiet, orderly atmosphere of the reading rooms. You’ll assist with digital resources, helping patrons access e-books, databases, and computer services. You’ll assist in logging children’s reading progress during seasonal programs like summer reading challenges. You’ll gain experience maintaining a welcoming, flexible space in a small but functional mobile environment.
Basic Qualifications:
- Maintain a quiet, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere for study, learning, and exploration.
- Oversee the acquisition of new books, periodicals, and digital materials based on community demand.
- Adapt to different roles—teacher, tech support, researcher, or event host—throughout the day.
- Ensure that digital systems—catalogs, e-books, and learning portals—are accessible and functional.
- Promote library services both in person and online to broaden community engagement.
Preferred:
- Comfortable conducting library orientations, workshops, or literacy programs for diverse age groups.
- Can collaborate with teachers, local organizations, or IT departments on education and outreach.
- Able to assist patrons with research, book searches, and accessing online resources or archives.
- Familiar with library catalog software (e.g., Koha, Aleph, Sierra) and digital databases.
- Capable of balancing desk duties with behind-the-scenes collection management and programming.
Benefits:
- Paid time to research, curate collections, and plan thoughtful programs.
- Every day offers small moments of joy — a thank-you, a found book, a new reader.
- No dress code pressure — come as you are, cardigan and all.
- Surround yourself with stories, ideas, and knowledge — every shelf has something new.
- You’re not “just a librarian” — you’re a quiet superhero of public knowledge.
You’ll help maintain toys, learning tools, and interactive areas, making sure everything is clean and safe for use. You’ll receive training in information confidentiality and how to support students who may be struggling academically or personally. You’ll be mentored on how to work calmly and respectfully with people from all backgrounds, ages, and reading levels. You’ll gain experience balancing quiet structure with gentle customer service, even during busy hours. You’ll assist in reshelving returned books and keeping the library neat and welcoming throughout your shift. No experience is needed — just kindness, patience, and genuine enthusiasm for helping young minds grow. No experience is required — just a helpful attitude, adaptability, and a love of bringing knowledge to people where they are. If you’re ready to turn books into adventures and curiosity into confidence, we’re ready to train you in the children’s library. If you're ready to turn books into bridges between people and places, we’re ready to train you on the road.
