Description:
We’re hiring a Mail Carrier Trainee who’s ready to learn how to deliver mail efficiently, accurately, and with a friendly attitude — rain or shine. You’ll begin by learning how incoming mail is received, sorted, and prepared for carriers or pickup shelves. You’ll be trained to sort letters and parcels by address and delivery order to keep your route smooth and efficient. You’ll assist with loading your vehicle — balancing boxes, envelopes, and supplies for a full day on the road. You’ll drive through a mix of paved and unpaved roads, stopping at mailboxes, gates, or porches to complete deliveries. You’ll be taught how to safely approach homes, manage gated entries, and handle mailboxes of all types. You’ll assist in scanning and logging packages at drop-off and pickup points to keep records accurate and up-to-date. You’ll receive guidance on securing your bike, managing deliveries in bad weather, and staying visible and alert on the road. You’ll help handle rerouted mail, forwarding it when needed or returning undeliverables with notes for follow-up.
Basic Qualifications:
- Ensure mail is delivered to the correct address with attention to names, unit numbers, and instructions.
- Support a positive image of the postal service through punctuality and professionalism.
- Respond politely to customers’ questions or requests about deliveries or postal procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of personal or business information seen during deliveries.
- Handle fragile or high-value items with care and follow special delivery protocols.
Preferred:
- Experience handling physical deliveries, either on foot, by bicycle, or by vehicle, in residential or commercial areas.
- Willing to handle basic customer inquiries politely and report any issues to supervisors as needed.
- Capable of managing a fast-paced workload independently while meeting strict time deadlines.
- Understands the responsibility of handling sensitive documents and time-critical deliveries.
- Able to follow designated routes, use GPS or route maps, and deliver mail on time in all weather conditions.
Benefits:
- Support from dispatch and coworkers — you're never fully on your own.
- Health, dental, and retirement plans that support long-term wellbeing.
- We celebrate effort — even on long routes and snowy days.
- Paid holidays, weekends off in most roles, and generous leave options.
- Start early, finish early — have your evenings to yourself.
You’ll receive training on what to do in case of a blocked entrance, a barking dog, or a delivery you can’t complete. You’ll help collect outgoing mail from public boxes or designated pickup points and return it to the post office on time. You’ll support postal team operations by organizing undelivered items and reporting incorrect or unsafe addresses. You’ll be trained in weather safety, load balance, and walking/driving efficiency to stay productive in all conditions. You’ll receive mentorship from experienced carriers and tips for managing long days, tight routes, and heavy bags. No experience is needed — just a valid license, strong reliability, and a willingness to work outdoors in changing conditions. No experience is needed — just punctuality, attention to detail, and a customer-focused mindset. This internship is perfect for someone interested in logistics, retail service, or postal careers. If you’re ready to help people send, receive, and stay connected every day, we’re ready to train you at the post office.
