Description:

We’re hiring a Public Transport Inspector for night patrol duties — ideal for someone who’s vigilant, calm under pressure, and ready to keep public transit safe when the city sleeps. You’ll be responsible for monitoring transit vehicles and routes to confirm adherence to schedules, cleanliness standards, and safety regulations. You’ll conduct random checks on vehicles and platforms, verifying driver conduct, passenger behavior, and service punctuality. You’ll be trained to identify early signs of wear, rust, fluid leaks, or damage that could lead to service interruptions or safety risks. You’ll inspect interiors for cleanliness, accessibility, proper signage, and functioning ticket validators or displays. You’ll use diagnostic tools, hand instruments, and visual assessments to record detailed vehicle condition reports. You’ll coordinate with drivers, station attendants, and law enforcement when managing difficult situations or fare disputes. You’ll check fare barriers, ticket machines, and validator units for proper function and report malfunctions quickly. You’ll rotate between lines, zones, and times of day to ensure comprehensive monitoring across the system.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Help monitor cleanliness, accessibility, and functionality of public transport vehicles and facilities.
  • Ensure accessibility standards are met for passengers with disabilities or mobility needs.
  • Check tickets and passes, verifying passenger compliance with fare regulations.
  • Use handheld devices or apps to verify digital tickets or log inspection data accurately.
  • Monitor stops and terminals for loitering, unauthorized vendors, or potential disruptions.

Preferred:

  • Willing to educate passengers on fare rules, boarding etiquette, and transit policies when needed.
  • Physically fit and able to stand, walk, or travel frequently between transport vehicles and terminals.
  • Comfortable using handheld devices or inspection apps to log data and issue citations or reminders.
  • Wants to grow into roles like Senior Inspector, Operations Coordinator, or Compliance Officer.
  • Can report on mechanical issues, environmental hazards, or unsafe rider behavior observed during inspections.

Benefits:

  • Opportunities to advance — from inspector to supervisor or management roles, the path is clear.
  • Job security — public transport is essential, and your role is critical to keeping it running smoothly.
  • You’ll work in a structured, fair environment where you’re valued as a vital part of the team.
  • Clear expectations and responsibilities — you know what needs to be done to keep things running efficiently.
  • Your work ensures safety — you're making sure passengers travel safely every day.

You’ll receive training in conflict de-escalation, transit law, and emergency response procedures specific to public transport. You’ll receive training in emergency protocols, flashlight signaling, radio communication, and nighttime de-escalation tactics. You’ll rotate through depots, garages, and yards during early morning or overnight hours to complete pre-shift inspections. You’ll maintain clear and calm communication during disruptions to ensure passengers feel informed and supported. You’ll be mentored by senior inspectors who will show you how to balance authority with respect and efficiency with fairness. You’ll be mentored by senior inspectors who will teach you to notice what others miss — because public safety depends on it. You’ll work in indoor and outdoor conditions, sometimes during poor weather or with limited lighting. No prior technical experience is required — just a strong eye for detail, willingness to learn, and comfort around machinery. If you're ready to help keep public vehicles reliable, safe, and road-ready, we’re ready to train you as a transport inspector.
