Description:
We’re hiring a Public Transport Inspector to oversee operations within the metro system — ideal for someone who’s attentive, safety-conscious, and comfortable working underground in a fast-paced environment. You’ll patrol platforms, escalators, and train cars to ensure passenger safety, operational compliance, and cleanliness throughout the station. You’ll be trained to use handheld scanners, validation apps, or visual checks to confirm passenger payment status quickly and discreetly. You’ll be trained to identify early signs of wear, rust, fluid leaks, or damage that could lead to service interruptions or safety risks. You’ll coordinate with station staff, security, and control centers during crowding, signal issues, or other disruptions. You’ll respond to incidents such as breakdowns, delays, overcrowding, or safety complaints with professionalism and composure. You’ll help enforce quiet hours and support operators in handling noise complaints or inappropriate behavior onboard. You’ll monitor fuel and fluid levels, tire condition, and battery health as part of preventive maintenance protocols. You’ll inspect shelters and waiting areas for damage, cleanliness, or safety concerns, and submit maintenance requests if needed.
Basic Qualifications:
- Respond to complaints from passengers calmly and take appropriate steps to resolve issues.
- Work closely with drivers, controllers, and law enforcement to ensure smooth operations.
- Work independently across large areas while staying organized and alert.
- Use handheld devices or apps to verify digital tickets or log inspection data accurately.
- Stay informed about updates to public transit policies, fare structures, or route adjustments.
Preferred:
- Wants to grow into roles like Senior Inspector, Operations Coordinator, or Compliance Officer.
- Comfortable interacting with the public in a respectful and assertive manner while maintaining authority.
- Pays close attention to schedule adherence, cleanliness, safety compliance, and rider conduct.
- Able to check passenger tickets or passes, verify fare validity, and issue warnings or fines when necessary.
- Values fairness, public safety, and efficiency in transportation oversight.
Benefits:
- Job security — public transport is essential, and your role is critical to keeping it running smoothly.
- Stability in an essential field — people will always need public transportation, and you’re the one ensuring it’s safe.
- Work in different environments — you’ll get to work on buses, trains, stations, and more.
- Access to mental health support — we know the job can be challenging, and we offer resources to help.
- You’ll never be bored — every day brings new challenges and new passengers.
You’ll receive training in conflict de-escalation, transit law, and emergency response procedures specific to public transport. You’ll support customer service by answering rider questions, providing directions, or distributing service update materials during inspections. You’ll be expected to walk, stand, ride, and occasionally drive between transit points throughout your shift. You’ll work in all types of weather and interact with a wide range of passengers, from commuters to tourists to schoolchildren. You’ll receive advanced training on vehicle systems, safety codes, and risk documentation procedures. You’ll receive mentorship from senior inspectors who will train you in metro-specific protocols and observation strategies. No experience is required — just confidence, honesty, and the ability to stand for long periods and stay calm under pressure. No prior technical experience is required — just a strong eye for detail, willingness to learn, and comfort around machinery. If you're ready to help keep public vehicles reliable, safe, and road-ready, we’re ready to train you as a transport inspector.
