We’re hiring a Baker Trainee to support our vegan and gluten-free bakery — perfect for someone who’s curious about alternative baking and passionate about inclusive, ingredient-conscious recipes. You’ll begin by learning how to scale large batches of dough, preparing ingredients accurately and efficiently while the city sleeps. You’ll assist in mixing doughs, folding batters, and learning how different ingredients behave under heat and time. You’ll be trained to operate machinery like conveyor ovens, dough dividers, and automated proofers safely and efficiently. You’ll help monitor baking times, record oven temperatures, and adjust timing as needed to maintain product quality. You’ll support the mixing, shaping, and finishing of baked goods that meet strict dietary and safety guidelines. You’ll learn how to inspect products for weight, color, and doneness — flagging any issues for supervisors. You’ll assist in cleaning and sanitizing all work zones according to strict hygiene and food safety regulations. You’ll be taught how to wrap, store, and present baked goods for the front counter or delivery.
Basic Qualifications:
- Check quality and freshness of ingredients before use and rotate stock as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation in compliance with food safety standards.
- Maintain equipment by cleaning mixers, ovens, and utensils regularly and reporting any malfunctions.
- Stay current on baking trends, seasonal flavors, and decorating techniques.
- Comply with allergen labeling and handle cross-contamination risks carefully.
Preferred:
- Able to follow recipes precisely, measure ingredients accurately, and adjust batch sizes as needed.
- Values consistency, creativity, and craftsmanship in every batch.
- Able to organize prep lists, rotate stock, and manage inventory for ingredients and baked goods.
- Able to clean equipment, follow closing procedures, and prep for the next day’s production.
- Familiar with operating mixers, ovens, proofers, dough sheeters, and other baking equipment safely and efficiently.
