Description:

We’re hiring a Veterinary Assistant to support our inpatient care and ICU — ideal for someone who stays calm under pressure and wants to help animals during their most vulnerable moments. You’ll assist with the daily care of birds, reptiles, amphibians, rodents, rabbits, and other exotic pets under veterinary supervision. You’ll help load and organize the mobile unit with equipment, vaccines, supplies, and portable diagnostic tools before each visit. You’ll assist with physical exams of cattle, horses, goats, sheep, pigs, and outdoor dogs, ensuring proper restraint and comfort. You’ll assist in holding animals for exams, beak trims, wing clippings, scale checks, or temperature readings. You’ll clean and disinfect boots, tools, and mobile gear between sites to avoid cross-contamination. You’ll be trained to monitor behavior, noting signs of aggression, fear, illness, or improvement and updating the care team. You’ll assist in setting up UV lighting, humidity controls, heating pads, or misting systems for exotic recovery areas. ) and prepare them for lab testing. You’ll help administer medications, apply bandages, or care for wounds under direction from licensed staff.

Basic Qualifications:

• Take pride in making animals feel safe, seen, and cared for—even when they can’t say thank you.
• Build trust with clients through empathy, active listening, and clear communication.
• Administer medications or treatments under the direction of a licensed veterinarian.
• Maintain accurate records of treatments, weights, vitals, and feeding schedules.
• Stay calm and composed when animals are in pain, scared, or aggressive.

Preferred:

• Comfortable handling cats, dogs, and other small or exotic animals during exams, treatments, or grooming.
• Able to restrain animals safely and calmly for procedures like vaccinations, nail trims, or blood draws.
• Willing to support surgical prep, sterilization, or post-operative monitoring under supervision.
• Capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment while remaining calm and supportive.
• Comfortable comforting anxious animals or clients and offering reassurance during visits.

You’ll help calm nervous owners, explain procedures, and assist with aftercare instructions for animals being treated on-site. You’ll manage laundry, restock supplies, and keep the clinic clean, organized, and ready for the next patient. You’ll communicate with owners about habitat conditions, diet, and enrichment tips under veterinary guidance. You’ll work closely with techs, trainers, and volunteers to keep operations flowing smoothly despite high animal volume. You’ll participate in team huddles, safety meetings, and training on animal handling and infection control. You’ll receive mentorship in emergency response, ICU workflow, and long-term patient management.
