Description:

We’re hiring a Public Transport Inspector to oversee fare compliance and ensure respectful conduct aboard city transit — ideal for someone who’s fair, observant, and confident in direct communication. You’ll ride buses, trams, or metro cars throughout the day performing random ticket inspections and checking for valid fare media. You’ll patrol stations, terminals, and high-traffic routes, keeping watch for disorderly behavior, vandalism, or unauthorized access. You’ll assist in inspecting ticketing systems, validating fare compliance, and interacting with passengers when needed. You’ll inspect interiors for cleanliness, accessibility, proper signage, and functioning ticket validators or displays. You’ll be expected to manage minor disputes on board by de-escalating calmly and avoiding disruption to service. You’ll assist with verifying proper signage, accessibility routes, and digital information displays for accuracy and functionality. You’ll rotate through different lines and zones to increase your visibility and presence across the system throughout the night. You’ll document any violations of metro regulations, such as fare evasion, disorderly conduct, or platform trespassing.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Conduct random or scheduled inspections onboard or at stations during various shifts.
  • Contribute to service improvement by reporting recurring issues or rider feedback.
  • Participate in training programs related to safety, regulations, or customer interaction.
  • Respond to complaints from passengers calmly and take appropriate steps to resolve issues.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of public transport networks, zones, and fare systems.

Preferred:

  • Willing to educate passengers on fare rules, boarding etiquette, and transit policies when needed.
  • Open to working rotating shifts, including weekends, early mornings, or late nights.
  • Pays close attention to schedule adherence, cleanliness, safety compliance, and rider conduct.
  • Comfortable interacting with the public in a respectful and assertive manner while maintaining authority.
  • Comfortable using handheld devices or inspection apps to log data and issue citations or reminders.

Benefits:

  • Job security — public transport is essential, and your role is critical to keeping it running smoothly.
  • Flexible shifts — full-time, part-time, and rotating shifts available, so you can find the balance that works for you.
  • Paid time off and holidays — because you deserve time to recharge.
  • Ongoing training and development — we support your growth with regular updates on safety standards and procedures.
  • Competitive pay — your attention to detail and dedication are rewarded fairly.

You’ll document nighttime activity, incident logs, and inspection summaries with detail and accuracy. You’ll be responsible for submitting daily reports on citations issued, incidents handled, and unusual rider behavior. You’ll work in pairs or small teams to ensure safety and coverage across different routes or areas. You’ll work independently or in pairs, often as the only representative of transit authority in remote or quiet areas. You’ll receive training in local transport law, passenger rights, safety policy, and effective communication strategies. You’ll be mentored by senior inspectors who will teach you to notice what others miss — because public safety depends on it. You’ll contribute daily logs and inspection notes that help prevent larger issues through early detection. If you’re ready to walk the last platform and protect the final ride of the night, we’re ready to train you for night patrol. If you're ready to help keep public vehicles reliable, safe, and road-ready, we’re ready to train you as a transport inspector.
