Description:

We’re looking for a Building Maintenance Technician Trainee who’s eager to learn, even if you’ve never fixed anything before. No prior experience? From day one, you’ll be part of a team that repairs, inspects, and maintains everything from lights to locks. You’ll shadow experienced techs, learn safety rules, and begin to understand how buildings breathe and function. You’ll start to understand how heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical components are maintained day to day. You’ll learn how to safely use tools, ladders, and equipment — and when to ask for help. Expect to be on your feet, moving through hallways, boiler rooms, rooftops, and everything in between. We’ll guide you in creating maintenance checklists, reporting issues, and keeping detailed logs of your work. You’ll use checklists to make sure nothing gets missed, and over time, you’ll know those lists by heart.

Basic Qualifications:

• Communicate effectively with building occupants about repair timelines, access needs, or updates on service requests.
• Ensure compliance with local safety codes, OSHA standards, and company maintenance protocols.
• Update logs and work orders using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) to track activity and parts used.
• Help manage inventory of tools, parts, and supplies—ordering replacements or notifying supervisors when stock is low.
• Test and maintain emergency systems such as backup generators, exit lighting, and fire extinguishers according to schedule.

Preferred:

• Values reliability, resourcefulness, and technical skill in keeping buildings safe and functional.
• Background or interest in facility operations, maintenance trades, or mechanical systems.
• Enjoys hands-on problem-solving and completing visible, meaningful repairs.
• Thrives in environments where no two days are exactly the same and work has a direct impact.
• Experience performing routine maintenance tasks in commercial, residential, or industrial buildings.
